Beasley Weekly Bulletin
Week of April 25, 2016
Welcome Back
I hope that all of you have enjoyed your Spring Break! This was a time to rejuvenate, refresh, and reflect because we are winding down to the last final months of school. May and June are critical because it will reflect our EOY performance on NWEA, our Student Attendance Performance (95% or higher; 97% preferred) and My Voice, My School.
I am claiming victory for Beasley. It is our time to become Level 1+. We all work too hard not to see the fruits of our work. We have consistently built to improve the effectiveness of our instructional core to improve student growth performance. What we have done includes:
1. Argument-centered literacy that are based upon debatable issues, essential questions, or social justice topics that includes exploring movies and international films
2. Informational text readings using close reading.
3. Comparative analysis of texts using close reading.
4. Emphasis on the Elements of Poetry in the upper grades.
5. Emphasis on Algebra and geometry.
6. Emphasis on error analysis in math as quarterly assessments.
7. Project-based student authentic work.
8. Pull-Out for Small Group Instruction.
Our CIWP team is using input from Teacher Teams, CIWP Teams and parents to ensure that our understanding is clear about how we intend to take Beasley to the next level. We are listening and it is clear that DISCIPLINE is our number #1 priority. We intend to find different actionable items that will help students to learn more about RESPECT, KINDNESS, and DIVERSITY. THE MESSAGE IS CLEAR AND I AM COMMITTED TOWARD FINDING INTERDISCIPLINARY CURRICULUM, STRATEGIES, AND RESOURCES TO ADDRESS THIS AREA,
Think Through Math
Remember that students can continue to use Think Through Math over these next two months to work on their math skills. They can work on their TTM assigned pathways or a customized pathway that you can create that can target skills prior to NWEA testing. We will be tracking student log in rates to determine if there is a correlation between grades and standardized testing.
Remember our parents can sign up for a Parent Portal with Think Through Math and be able to view student goals, student accomplishments, and areas that need more work,

Argument-Centered Literacy in Math
Attached is a copy of the activity with rubric. This project is very authentic and was created by me to learn more about how our instructional approach with argument-centered literacy can be used. I will send all of you a copy of the Math Research Project on a separate email.
