Life After High School
Thanksgiving Camp Opportunity
Leadership Prep School will serve as the host site for NuMind's "Turkeys Can Fly!" camp on Monday, Nov. 19 (during Thanksgiving break). Please use the registration code in the flyer below to save $10 (LPSFam2018 - only LPS families can take advantage of this deal!).
NuMinds has created a zany, engaging, STEAM program built around the narrative of a clever turkey named Tom looking to change his Thanksgiving fate.
At this camp, your child will:
• Design a catapult contraption to launch Tom beyond the pen, while avoiding the farmer's trampoline traps;
• Work to achieve the right balance of weight and fuel to successfully send Tom's homemade escape pod into orbit; and
• Contrive a disguise clever enough to evade the farmer's minions, even with wanted posters all over town.

TIME, TASK, and SELF-MANAGEMENT for STUDENT SUCCESS
ATTENTION PARENTS: Is TIME, TASK, and SELF-MANAGEMENT a struggle for your child? Join us for the next parent seminar to receive tools from NuMinds Enrichment to help your child manage his/her rigorous schedule for academic success. While this program is geared to high-performing and Gifted & Talented students, information presented at this seminar has the ability to help all students get organized!
WHEN: Monday, November 26 (Doors open at 6 PM and Program Begins at 6:15 PM)
WHERE: LPS Elementary Campus Auditorium
WHAT: The following is a description of this seminar, as provided by NuMinds:
In our role as enrichment specialists at NuMinds Enrichment, we're often called upon to help guide the mind of a brilliant but scattered student who just might solve the enigma of unified field theory, crank out a cure for cancer, and even crack the Beale Cipher by breakfast if only he or she could manage some of the basics of self-management and organization to extract some of that gold from a scattered, overwhelmed mind. Ironically, even with the power of 10 personal assistants at their fingertips, most digital natives have not even begun to tap the organizing power of smart technology in order to declutter their minds and open up space for creative productivity. One of our first steps is to see what type of tech intervention from those apps currently available might be effective and appropriate. Each of the apps we cover in this workshop is a piece of the toolkit.

Curriculum Highlight!
What is Membean and Why Does My Child Have it for Homework Every Week?
The limits of my language are the limits of my mind. All I know is what I have words for. —Ludwig Wittgenstein
This is our third year to implement Membean into our English curriculum. We know how important a word rich vocabulary is in every facet of a student's life. We have loved how well this program has grown our students and are excited to see their literary works already being published in local magazines like Frisco Style. If you would like more information on this program, please contact your student's ELA teacher!

It's November and that means there is only 2 weeks until the opening of Collin County Ballet Theatre’s Nutcracker with live music provided by The Plano Symphony Orchestra!
The Nutcracker is a time honored family holiday tradition. Join Clara as she enters a dream world set in motion by the magical nutcracker doll given to her by her Uncle Drosselmeyer. Watch the famous battle between the Toy Soldiers and the Rat King, flurry into the sparkling land of the Snow Queen and her snowflakes, and journey through the realm of the Lemonade Sea Queen into the Land of the Sweets. The Sugar Plum Fairy and the residents of her kingdom will delight you with dances by The Chinese Tea Maidens, The Spanish Chocolate, Arabian Coffee, Merlitons, Russian Trepak, Bakers and Gingerbreads, and the Waltz of the Flowers.
This year we are also asking that guests please bring an unwrapped, new toy to benefit Toys for Tots at the Eisemann Center shows and Children's Advocacy Center of Collin County for the Frisco shows.
Don't miss out on your chance to see international ballet stars Adiarys Almeida and Taras Dimitro return to the stage along with an amazing production cast including two LPS Secondary students, Hailey and Rafael Leon.
