Sept 21st - Sept 25th
Parent and Guardian Announcements
- If possible, please encourage your student to bring a water bottle to school. Student Council has water bottles for sale at the front office for $3.
ELA
This week ELA will continue with their read aloud Towers Falling by Jewell Parker Rhodes. We will continue to discuss drawing conclusions, making inferences, and supporting our thinking with textual evidence. (RL1A, RI1A) Please send in the Library Card Applications if you student does not have a library card for Daniel Regional Library. This will give them an opportunity to get online books, videos, etc through our local library using the app HOOPLA. Sixth grade students are expected to read 30 minutes each night. Sit down and share a book with them doing paired reading! As always, we are here to help so please reach out if you have any questions for our team!

Math
Essential Learning Outcomes for Unit 1:
ELO 1: Find the area of shapes by breaking and putting back together the shapes into rectangles or triangles.
ELO 2: Students will be able to find area, surface area and volume using nets.
Mon: Students will be able to find the area of a polygon by decomposing and rearranging it, and by using what they know about rectangles and triangles. Practice Problems 1.11
Tues: Introduction to surface area and what it means. Practice Problems 1.12
Wed: Knowing the difference between prisms and pyramids and being able to understand the relationship between a polyhedron and its net. Practice Problems 1.13
Thurs: Matching polyhedra with its nets and explaining how you know. When given a net of a pyramid or prism, you will be able to calculate its surface area. Practice Problems 1.14
Fri: More on surface area of prisms and pyramids. You will also learn to draw the nets of prisms and pyramids. Practice Problems 1.15

Science
This week: We will continue to explore how engineers make decisions and the process they go through to test an idea!
6-8.ETS1.A.1: Define the criteria and constraints of a design problem with sufficient precision to ensure a successful solution, taking into account relevant scientific principles and potential impacts on people and the natural environment that may limit possible solutions.
6-8.ETS1.B.1: Evaluate competing design solutions using a systematic process to determine how well they meet the criteria and constraints of the problem
6-8.ETS1.B.3: Develop a model to generate data for iterative testing and modification of a proposed object, tool, or process such that an optimal design can be achieved.
6-8.ETS1.B.2: Analyze data from tests to determine similarities and differences among several designing solutions to identify the best characteristics of each that can be combined into a new solution to better meet the criteria for success.
