Nurse Amy Hensley Won an Award!
I am pleased to share that Nurse Amy Hensley has been selected for the St. Louis Suburban School Nurses' Association's Outstanding Service by a School Nurse Award! Please read a snippet from the letter we received that shares why Nurse Hensley was nominated. It is very heartwarming to read! Nurse Hensley does so much for the Hixson Middle School community, and we are all very thankful for her service. Congratulations Nurse Hensley!
Hixson Students Participated in Special Olympics Unified Bowling!
On Tuesday, November 7, Hixson students participated in the Unified Partners Bowling competition! This competition pairs people with and without disabilities on the same teams to foster inclusion and equity. Our Best Buddies program partnered with our PE department to form our Unified Bowling team. Our students had so much fun, and they even received a compliment from a community member! You can read that compliment below!
"Another school didn't bring enough partners today and y'all had extra, so a few were flexible and switched to partner with students from Rockwood South Middle at the last minute. The Rockwood South teacher was RAVING about your kids - could not speak highly enough of them and how well they treated her students."
What a great way to exhibit our core values of positive relationships, respect, and teamwork! We are so proud of our students!
We would like to thank Mr. Downey (Hixson SSD Teacher), who planned and led this experience, as well as Hixson PE/Health teachers Mr. Wells and Mr. Hummert for helping to make this experience possible!
Student and Staff Recognition
This school year the counseling team is working with building administrators to encourage and enhance student and staff recognition. Our goal is to help foster a positive school environment where students and staff are able to be recognized for their progress within the building.
The counseling department designed a recognition process around the school’s core values of Positive Relationships, Respect and Teamwork for students. They also designed a recognition process for student’s to nominate staff members which focuses on positive relationships, positive impact on learning, and positive academic experiences. We are excited to host our first recognition ceremony on Monday December 11th.
Staff members and parents of nominated students will be invited to attend. If your student is receiving an award you will receive an invitation from the counseling department. We are excited for this new opportunity to recognize the amazing work that happens daily at Hixson Middle School.
Spirit Week, Nov 15-21

Fall Food Baskets
Each year we strive to prepare fall holiday meal baskets for Hixson families in need. Our goal is to prepare 30 food baskets this year. Please consider signing up for a food item or a donation to help with the costs of the baskets. All non-perishable items can be dropped off starting October 1st until November 13th. Any perishable items should be dropped off starting November 11th through November 14th. All donations should be turned into the counseling office by 11/14/23. We are specifically in need of turkeys, yams, desserts, cranberry sauce, dinner rolls, and laundry baskets. If you would like to donate any of these items please use the sign up below. For any questions please contact the Counseling Department. Thanks for your support of our Hixson families.

Fall Food Drive
Our annual Fall Food Drive will take place from October 30 to November 17. The items we collect will help stock the District Food Pantry which is housed at Hixson and is run by the Hixson Leaders. The food items from the Food Pantry provides items for the Friday Food Bag program that was designed to support families that may experience food insecurity.
Students can bring in non-perishable food items to their Statesman Time between October 30 and November 17. Please do not bring food that is about to or already expired. Statesman Time groups will receive points per item. The Statesman Time group with the most points will win a reward (TBD)!
