It's strange to consider that this is the penultimate week before we all break up for the summer holidays; it's most certainly a year that will go down in history and I would like to extend my thanks, once again, to all you parents/carers and members of the community for supporting the children and school by staying positive and showing such remarkable resolve. I would also like to say a humongous thank you to all the staff who have been absolutely brilliant during and post lockdown. They have worked tirelessly to ensure every child's best interests are at heart; often adapting to new ways of working and being consistently flexible throughout! Finally, I would like to say thank you to the school governors who have provided important support and challenge throughout this year. I have personally enjoyed working with them and I look forward to continuing this to ensure the school goes from strength from strength.
'Every End Is A New Beginning!'
Have a happy, enjoyable and safe summer holidays.
Mr Francksen

3. September Class Structure
I would like to share with you, once again, the class structure for September.
I am delighted to announce that we will be moving back to a 4-class set-up. This will mean that each class, as they currently are, will be moving up together. This will enable them continuity and familiarity with their social learning groups. It will also enable us to enhance our leadership throughout the school. Miss Mitchell will become the Key Stage 1 Leader and Miss DP will lead our Key Stage 2 provision.
The structure will look as follows:
Class 1 (Reception) - Mrs Shave
Mrs Shave has already begun transforming the early years environment. A new indoor sandpit, mud kitchen and free-flow area will form some of the continuous provision planned. We will be incredibly excited to unveil this in September.
Class 2 (Y1 & 2) - Miss Mitchell & Mrs Buckle
Miss Mitchell and Mrs Buckle are looking forward to offering an early years approach, for our forthcoming Y1s and Y2s, in order to support their smooth transition into Key Stage 1.
Class 3 (Y3 & 4) - Mrs Welch, Miss Grist & Mrs Singleton
Mrs Welch, Miss Grist & Mrs Singleton are extremely looking forward to welcoming their new class and engaging them with a new and exciting curriculum.
Class 4 (Y5 & 6) - Miss DP
Miss DP is thrilled to be building upon a wonderful culture already created in Key Stage 2. She will focus on Y5 & 6, however, she will provide effective leadership for all of Key Stage 2.
Enrichment Leader & Class 1 - Mr Hurkett
Mr Hurkett will, again, continue to offer high-quality PE, outdoor learning/DT across the school as well as providing classroom support, where required.
4. Curriculum
Please do explore our bespoke 'Why?', 'How?' and 'What?' of the curriculum. Whilst this will continue to be strengthened and worked upon, it now forms a clear vision for our school. The Long Term Plans (LTP) provide an overview of all the literacy texts and topic/themes from Year Reception to Year 6.
5. Outdoor Play and Learning (OPAL)
We have discussed at length the importance of playtime and the fact it accounts for 20% of a child's experience at school. That's 1 day every week! To acknowledge this, we are embarking on a programme called OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) and over the next 12-18 months, we will be looking to develop both our outdoor space and the play opportunities we offer.
I am incredibly excited to announce that Jo Ling will become the school's 'Play Governor.' Jo has an extensive CV with outdoor learning including being a Forest Schools trainer, outdoor learning provider and a former primary school deputy head.
As part of our OPAL initiative, we are desperately trying to obtain loose parts for this provision. If you are able to help we would really appreciate any materials you may be able to provide us. If you are able to help, please email the school office. We can then arrange a suitable time for you to drop these items off.
STORAGE - our main challenge is securing sufficient storage. Ideally, we would love a large wooden garden shed/container; if anyone has any contacts or could donate towards this cause, we would be extremely appreciative.
Please see our loose parts list, below...

6. Grant Funding
- Breakfast Club - we have received £1000 from the Kelloggs Breakfast Fund to improve our early morning offer. Initial thoughts are to buy a new cooker, toaster and to fund breakfast food items;
- The Crawford's Educational Trust - we have received a grant of £1000 to support with our outdoor learning focus next year. We hope to provide storage and engaging learning resources to be enjoyed every break and lunchtime;
- Mid District Locality Grant - we have received £500 to support with our outdoor learning provision. This could include projects relating to building an eco-friendly environment and gardening provision;
- The Wetherden School Trust - we have received £600 to create a bespoke history curriculum timeline, which we plan to display in the school building.
I would like to say a huge thank you to all of our grant supporters; this funding will enable the school to dramatically enhance our provision by providing a wonderful learning eco-system. I look forward to sharing these developments with you in the new academic year.
