An Exciting Week at the Hill!
Dear River Hill Families,
I hope this message finds you enjoying the fantastic summer-like weather we've been having. Whether it's taking a leisurely walk, relaxing on your deck, or engaging in a round of golf, tennis, or pickleball, today’s weather provides the perfect backdrop for these delightful activities.
As we bask in this beautiful weather, I am equally excited to share some of the remarkable accomplishments and events from this past week at our school, which have brought joy and pride to our community.
This week kicked off with a momentous occasion as we celebrated one of our very own, Ms. Jessica Nichols, who was honored as the 2024 Howard County Teacher of the Year. The celebration was a vibrant affair, with Acting Superintendent Bill Barnes, Board of Education members, and Central Office staff joining us. The gym was filled with enthusiastic upperclassmen as we announced the exciting news. Special thanks to Mr. Blackman and the band, as well as our cheerleaders, who all contributed to making the event spectacular. Congratulations to Ms. Nichols on this well-deserved recognition!
In sports, our boys' baseball team clinched a thrilling 1-0 victory against top-ranked Long Reach. It was an intense game, highlighted by an outstanding performance from our ace pitcher, Henry Zatkowski. Our softball team also continues to shine, giving us another reason to celebrate as Coach Marni Rosenbaum achieved her 200th career win! Congratulations to Coach Marni and our dedicated athletes for their hard work and perseverance.
Last Thursday was a very special day at our school—it was Take Your Child to Work Day! I was so thrilled to welcome the children of our wonderful teachers into our classrooms. We had nearly THIRTY children in the building! This was a unique opportunity for them to see firsthand the incredible work their parents do every day.
The excitement extended into the arts, with our band putting on a fantastic concert Friday night. The talent displayed was truly remarkable, and it was heartwarming to hear someone remark, "they are so talented." Well done to all our performers! Please see below for a list of upcoming performing arts concerts.
