All About 9/11
Introduction to 9/11
September 11th, 2001 was a date that changed our world forever. A plane crashed into the Pentagon, a field in Pennsylvania, and even the World Trade Center. Several planes also got hijacked. I got assigned to read a chapter on United Flight 93, and I'm about to tell you a little bit about it.

Okay, Let's Roll
My chapter comes from the book Heroes of 9/11, and it's called "Okay, Let's Roll." The chapter is on United Flight 93. In my chapter, a man named Todd Beamer is famous for saying, "Okay, Let's Roll," and we'll get back to that later. On flight 93 there were 44 people on board, yet only four knew that everyone would soon die. One person on the plane had just celebrated his grandmother's 100th birthday. At 9:24 A.M. people on the plane received a text message saying "beware any cockpit intrusion-- two aircraft have hit the World Trade Center." Then, at 9:28, all four hijackers tied red bandannas around their head and leaped for action. A man had jumped up to try to block one of the hijackers; he got stabbed in the chest. Flight 93 had suddenly dropped 700 feet. Everybody started freaking out. People all over the plane were calling their spouses and/or mom and dad to tell them how much they loved them. Some men had gotten together and formed a group who were going to get the plane back. Flight attendants were boiling water in coffee pots to throw at the hijackers. Todd Beamer, a man on the plane, asked the group of guys, "Are y'all ready?" A man said yes and Beamer said, "Okay, let's roll." It was 9:57 A.M. and all the passengers started to get up and take the plane back. Jarrah, the hijacker pilot, began shifting the plane hard to the left and hard to the right, trying to knock the attacking passengers off balance. Jarrah started going up and down, and then, at 10:03 A.M. the plane plowed into the ground at 508 miles per hour in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The crash killed all on board leaving a large crater. The hijackers were stopped from hitting a famous landmark by the heroes of United Flight 93. "May all who visit this place remember the collective acts of courage and sacrifice of the passengers and crew, revere this hallowed ground as the final resting place of these heroes, and reflect on the power of individuals who choose to make a difference."
