Student Council
More Exciting News!
We will begin elections for the new Student Council. We have not been able to hold a student council since 2019 and we are excited to have our students' voices heard again.
The JC Student Council will be made up the following elected positions:
Student Council Co- Presidents - Two fifth grade students
Classroom representatives in grades 3-5 -One representative from each class, 7 positions.
The purpose of the Council is to act as liaison between the JC student body and the JC PTA, teachers and administration. Over the year, the Council will meet with the Principal, the JC PTA Executive Board, and the Safe School Climate Committee to communicate issues that are important to the students of JC.
The fifth grade co-presidents will be elected first. Fifth graders should self nominate on this form by Monday, November 8th. The fifth grade co-presidents will be elected by their peers in the 5th grade. They will be permitted to campaign the week of November 8th and should be ready to give their speech during lunch on November 10th. Elections will be held on November 12th.
Following the elections of the fifth grade students all students in grades 3rd, 4th and 5th grade will all have the opportunity to self nominate to serve on the Council. There will be one representative per class. This election process will begin on November 15th. Students should self-nominate on this form and be ready to campaign on the week of November 15th. Students will give a speech to their classroom peers on Friday, November 19th. Elections will be held on Monday 11/22.
Once the candidates have been announced, they will be given the opportunity to campaign (posters, slogans, hand shaking, etc.), and they will each be given an opportunity to deliver a campaign speech. All campaign related material must be in good taste, will not involve gifts and will be prescreened by the JC PTA and/or JC staff.
IMPORTANT: Fifth grade forms are due in the office on Monday, November 8th. Third, fourth and fifth grade classroom representative forms are due to the main office on November 15th.
In order to run for Student Council, all candidates must be considered in “good standing” by the staff and administration at JC.
“Good standing” is defined as a student who consistently follows our school norms, abides by the Julian Curtiss School Pledge, and is not disruptive, disrespectful or rude to the staff, teachers or his/her peers. The student must demonstrate effort in their schoolwork and the ability to manage the day-to-day demands of school including homework. All candidates must arrive at school on time. Any candidate marked late 2 or more times so far this school year will be excluded from the election. Attendance and promptness will be checked.
