This week, December 1-7, marks National Influenza Vaccination Week!! It’s a great idea to go out and receive your flu shot, not only for yourself but also for those around you that are unable to receive it. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, CDC recommends receiving the vaccinations even if you’ve already been sick this year.
Along the lines of influenza, please keep your child home if they have a fever over 100. When calling into the school, let the office know if your child has a fever over 100 with a cough and/or sore throat. We do track influenza cases and report to the state. (Numbers only, student information is not tracked).
With winter upon us, germs tend to spread a little more frequently! Please wash your hands and cover your cough with your arm. It is great to use hand sanitizer, but it’s more important to wash your hands throughout the day as most germs need the soap and water friction to wash away!! (This should be done at ALL times throughout the year!!)
It is cold outside! All students should be wearing jackets, hats and mittens when going outside. We hear from a number of students on a daily basis that their hands are cold from recess. If they forget, there are hats/mittens available by the recess doors if they do end up forgetting their own. They need to be placed in the used bin afterwards!! If you need winter supplies, please reach out to the school nurse and/or social worker.
With hat season here...it is also a good reminder about head lice. Please be checking your students on a weekly basis and remind them NOT to share hats with their friends. If using a hat for recess, it needs to be placed in the used bin afterwards to be washed. Head lice is easily treated when caught early! Our head lice protocol can be found on the district webpage under health services if you have any questions.
Last reminder if a student needs medication, please remember we need a physician/provider’s signature. The forms can be found on the district webpage under health services and/or in the health office.
