January 25, 2019
Mustangs,
It has been brought to my attention several times since returning from Winter Break about drivers hurrying and not being cautious. Please know that one little accident can be devastating. With this said, I need to ask that you move slowly through our parking lots and drives. Watch carefully and do not use your cell phone while driving in our car rider lines. Passing on the left side of the car line generates two lanes of traffic so caution is a must. If you park to drop off children, please wait for a clear break in traffic before backing out.
Concerns on Midway Road have also been shared. Please do not cross the double yellow lines as you may meet a bus or car leaving the school which creates a head-on disaster. I did notice that the Sheriff's Department has been monitoring Midway Road this week. If you are witnessing reckless behavior on the highway, please do report to the Sheriff's or SC Highway Department. Last year the ticket for crossing the double yellow lines was well over $235.00.
Safety is a priority! Thank you for your help with this!!
Please note that we have early dismissal at 11:40 a.m. on Wednesday, January 30. This is a Collaborative Planning Day with both breakfast and lunch being served. If your child is going home in a different manner, please write a note to your child's teacher.
Have a wonderful weekend! Read, read, read, along with some great fitness activities!
Yours truly,
Jan Fickling, Principal

Lexington District One Beechwood Middle zoning process meetings:
Beechwood Middle, located on 1340 Highway 378 on a 34.57-acre site, will open in August of 2019 for the 2019–2020 school year. The district will hold three public meetings so that the public can hear a formal presentation of the proposed attendance lines and review maps of the proposed attendance lines. That formal presentation takes place at 6:30 p.m. Lexington District One staff, however, will stay until 7:30 p.m. to answer questions.
The proposed attendance zone for Beechwood Middle School alters the attendance lines of Lexington Middle, Meadow Glen Middle and Pleasant Hill Middle schools. In other words, some children who attend these schools this year may attend a different school after the new attendance lines go into effect.
Parents can come to any of these meetings and do not have to come to the one at their child’s school, as the district will provide the same information at all three meetings.
The zoning meetings will take place on:
Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2019, in Lexington Middle School’s theater
Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2019, in Pleasant Hill Middle School’s theater
Thursday, Jan. 31, 2019, in Meadow Glen Middle School’s theater
JUMP 4 KIDS JANUARY 30TH!
Midway is doing a different fundraiser this year in physical education. We have done Jump Rope for Heart for many years but our national organization, SHAPE America, dropped the program because of lack of financial responsibility.
We have decided to donate all money to a local organization Palmetto Children's Hospital. We have a student Kellen Hoey who has "rung the bell" and will officially be cancer free in 2020.
I have a attached fundraising information and a video of the Hoey family. We named our fundraising event Jump 4 Kids. We will have our jumping day on Jan. 30th.
Thank You for your help!

Midway’s International Parade of Nations on Friday, February 8, 2019
The Mustang family invites you to participate in Midway’s International Parade of Nations on Friday, February 8, 2019, following the morning announcements. We want to celebrate the diversity and cultural heritage of our wonderful students and their families. Students may wear traditional clothing from their country and/or bring a country flag to wave as they walk through the hallways. The parade is open to all of our fabulous students, and we encourage you to join in the celebration. We will also be singing “Hello to All the Children of the World” as we greet one another. For those who wish to join in the festivities, please meet in the cafeteria at 7:45 a.m.
Also, remember that later the same evening, February 8, 2019, the amazing Midway PTO is sponsoring International Heritage Night from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. We hope to see you there.
