SMS Warrior Update
The Schuyler Middle School Newsletter March 2017
Track Begins March 20th
The incredibly popular SMS track team is back in season! The team meeting will be held on Thursday, March 16th at 3:45 p.m. in the SMS gymnasium. The first team practice will take place on Monday, March 20th. Please remember...it doesn't matter how good you are now; it matters how hard you will work to be your best at every practice and meet! All interested student athletes can talk with Mr. Block, Miss Arlt, or Mr. Zavadil.
Central Community College and SMS Create Opportunities for Students
Central Community College has graciously invited schools to send groups of 8th-10th graders to learn more about what future employers are needing down the road from our graduates. Students will have the opportunity to become educated on interviewing techniques, career assessments, and presenting themselves positively on social media. Twenty students will be representing SMS! A special thank you to Mrs. Kment and Mrs. Benesch for chaperoning!
7th Graders Sew Back Packs
All 7th graders at SMS work to develop their sewing skills. Students learn how to sew buttons and end the class with the completion of their own back pack!
8th Graders Complete Their Soup Unit
8th Grade Family and Consumer Science students recently completed their soup unit! Students made a variety of soups, focusing on teamwork and solid nutrition.
SMS R-Time
Every Monday-Thursday all SMS students meet with their R-Time teachers. R-Time is a place where students build relationships within their R-Time families and learn more about their strengths, while focusing on improving their constraints.
SMS Band and Choir Students Prepare for the Platteview Contest
SMS students are busily preparing for the Platteview Music Contest on Friday, March 24th. Parent chaperones are asked to contact Mr. Reinsch or Mrs. Bywater if they would like to attend. We ask that all students are ready to leave SMS that morning looking their best at 7:30 a.m. We look forward to seeing our students compete on behalf of Schuyler Middle School!
Event Information
March NeSA Testing Dates
It is important that all SMS students are present for NeSA testing. NeSA testing is a federally mandated test that SMS 6th-8th graders take in the areas of Math and Language Arts. All 8th graders take an additional test in Science. SMS has continued to increase our scores on the NeSA and was ranked a, "GREAT" school by the Nebraska Department of Education!
We look forward to continuing our growth and our student success at SMS!
