Veterans Day
To our Veterans, The CRC staff thanks you for your service and commitment to our country.
Attendance Matters-Part 1 La asistencia importa parte 1
This is the first of a three-part series regarding attendance. Attendance is an area of focus for us since I became the principal in 2017. Currently, 11.9% of CRC students are considered chronically absent. Last year 31% of our students were chronically absent. We've worked very hard and have made great progress but have work to do to reach our goal of 10%.
I hope you find this series useful and will join us in helping decrease the number of chronically absent and tardy students at CRC.
- Starting in kindergarten, too many absences can cause children to fall behind in school.
- Missing 10 percent (or about 18 days) can make it harder to learn.
- Students can still fall behind if they miss just one or two days every few weeks.
- Being late to school can lead to poor attendance.
- Absences can affect the whole classroom if the teacher has to slow down learning to help students catch up.
Attending school regularly helps students feel better about school and themselves. It's important to start building this habit in preschool so they learn right away that going to school on time, every day is important. Good attendance will help students do well in high school, college, and at work.
When do Absences Become a Problem?
Chronic Absence: 18 or more days
Warning Signs: 10-17 days
Satisfactory: 9 or fewer absences
Next week I will cover: excused vs. unexcused absences, independent study, and what you can do at home to ensure your child has excellent attendance.
Please login to the parent portal and click on attendance if you'd like to know your student's current attendance rate. The goal for your student is to be above 90%. Please contact me if you have any questions about attendance.
