PANTHER PRESS
December 4, 2020
You may have heard that the CDC has provided additional options regarding quarantining for those that may have been exposed to COVID-19. Marion County Public Health has approved using these changes, and KCSD will also begin to use the guidelines beginning next week for new cases. If students have been quarantining, they will need to continue to do so until the original date of return is met.
KCSD will continue to follow the dates provided to students/families from Marion County Public Health. As the new guidelines are implemented, many students will miss less school due to quarantining.
If a student tests positive for COVID-19, they will still be required to isolate for 10 days and must be fever free before returning to school. There is no change in this protocol.
Below you will find the most recent 5-Day Average Rates for our district. Overall, we are still in good shape and plan to continue having school in our buildings. We appreciate the care our families took over Thanksgiving to keep our students healthy, so we can keep kids in schools and activities. We are hopeful the Governor will allow our middle school activities to resume after December 10. Look for more information next week.
Have a great weekend!

8th Grade Language Arts
In language arts this semester, students have read a variety of short stories, with an emphasis on analyzing the stages of plot, conflict, point-of-view, and characterization. Some of the stories students have read are "The Tell-Tale Heart" by Edgar Allan Poe and a play narrated by Orson Welles called "The Hitchhiker". In addition, students read "Flowers for Algernon" by Daniel Keyes, a story about a man who has a surgery that triples his intelligence. "Flowers for Algernon" is a particularly interesting story because it leads to a discussion over the nature and importance of intelligence. The discussion over that story also centers around characterization, with students analyzing how a writer develops a character in his or her story. Students then develop their own character, using some of these techniques themselves.

A Reminder from the Nurse
Does your child require prescribed medication at school? If so, the medication must be in a pharmacy labeled bottle/container and a completed medication consent form must be turned in before the medication can be given. Parents: please bring medication to the office at your student's school. Please: Do not send medications in baggies or with your child in their lunch or pocket. We will not administer those medications. Thanks for the help to keep everyone safe!
