December is Read A New Book Month
Read A New Book Month is the perfect opportunity to pick up that book that you've been meaning to read but haven't started. This holiday month everyone is encouraged to grab new books and spend the next 30 days absorbing them. You can cozy up by the fireplace with a new book and enjoy the holiday season.
Challenge yourself to read not only a new book but a new type of book. This may allow you to see the world in a different way. Try reading a book you don't normally read or one on a topic that you don't know much about. I have always wanted to read Christmas novels during the month of December. I have purchased a few and they are still sitting on my bookshelf. I will challenge myself to read a few this month.
During the month, you or your students can pick up new books, trade books with friends, or join a book club.
Start your new reading adventure today!!!

Community ISD'S Paraprofessional Spotlight
Linda Sanchez, the district library coordinator for Community ISD, would love to spotlight one of her amazing library paraprofessionals, Aileen Juarez.
Aileen Juarez is a library paraprofessional at Community ISD’s Dodson Elementary School in Lavon, TX. She is also a recent graduate from our district. Aileen runs the day to day operations of the library and teaches her heart out!
With innovative ideas, creative programming, and a joyful attitude, Ms. Juarez has made the Dodson Elementary library a place where students love to be. She is patient, kind, and most of all, loves her students. She even collects food and drinks for students who need food for the weekend or evenings, which she often passes out after school.
This school year, Ms. Juarez has implemented a lunch book club, where students come to the library to complete Maker Space activities, crafts, hear a read-aloud, or help out around the library. In addition, she has set up a program where the other students come and read to the littles. Ms. Juarez has also invited several guest readers, including our superintendent. Through partnership with the campus art teacher, Aileen has also hosted several contests to get kids excited about reading and using their creativity. Her Storybook Pumpkin decorating contest was a big hit! The superintendent and assistant superintendents helped judge the contest. She is currently holding another contest where students submit a storybook themed Christmas ornament.
Below are some pictures that feature some of the awesome things happening in her library.
Our November "Talko Tuesday" was amazing!!!
PD On the Go refers to the posters you might see in a bathroom, by the copier, or in the teacher's lounge with information on topics you can learn about. The idea is to share bite sized pieces of information and ideas in places that people already spend time. It is also called "Potty" PD and "Learning in the Loo".
