Welcome to RVCS
We want to welcome Kendra Jansen to Rock Valley Christian. Kendra will be one of our 4th grade teachers for the 2024-2025 school year. She lives in Doon with her husband, Travis, and 1 year old son Kamden. Kendra graduated from the University of Sioux Falls with an Elementary Education Degree in May 2019. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her family outside. They go on many walks in our community. They enjoy going for rides in their side by side. She enjoys to cook and bake. Her favorite part of teaching is seeing a studentβs face light up when they understand a new, difficult concept. She enjoys bringing real world experiences and hands-on items to help students learn. Her least favorite part of teaching is grading. When she was younger and played school she thought it was so fun to grade with a red pen. She knew she wanted to be a teacher after she helped in a local grade school classroom her senior year of high school. She and her family attend church at First CRC in Rock Valley. Her favorite verse is: Philippians 4:6-7 βDo not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to the Lord. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.β Christian education means that she gets to work with the churches, families, and Rock Valley Christian School to help train and prepare children for the world. She gets the opportunity to help grow and strengthen her students Christian faith. She says, βIt is amazing to see each studentβs God given gifts and talents at such young ages and watch how students use those gifts and talents.β
Kindergarten Round-Up
Preschool Open House
Registering for preschool will look a bit different this year compared to past years. Although there will still be 2 sessions of preschool, when you register, you will not make a choice of the morning or afternoon session. You will register your child by just giving parent & child information. We will be dividing the classes equally based on birth date. We will have the younger students in the morning session & the older students in the afternoon. Considering the years of experience of the teachers and input from early childhood professionals & administration, it was decided that providing a preschool experience with developmentally similar classmates is beneficial to both the younger & older students in preschool. A couple of factors that went into the decision were:
- Child development β This is the number one factor guiding this decision. There are differences in attention, problem-solving skills, social skills, academic skills, etc. in a very young preschool student & one who is older. The curriculum is the same for both classes but can be taught in ways that accommodate the individual classes. Teachers will customize changes based on the developmental stage of the class.
- Stamina β Dividing the classes this way, takes stamina into consideration. Some younger students are in need of afternoon naps, whereas the older students can begin to build the stamina needed for all day kindergarten. In the past, we have noticed fatigue in younger afternoon students which impacts their retention of the skills taught.
We are aware that this change may cause you to adjust your preschool expectations, but we are confident this will have a positive impact on your childβs preschool experience and that is why we are doing this.
