September 2018 NRWHS Newsletter
Mission: To Prepare Each Student for a Successful Future
Welcome Back!
We hope that the summer season treated you well and that you are ready for the 2018-2019 school year. We’ve been busy preparing for the upcoming year, and we can’t wait to welcome our students back on Tuesday!
The purpose of this newsletter is to provide some information that will enable our students to hit the ground running. You’ll find the updated student handbook and details related to scheduling, protocols, and more.
We’ve also included our School Improvement Plan for this year. We believe strongly in the importance of continuous improvement, so we dedicate ourselves to that aim by developing an annual improvement plan for our school. NRWHS is a school community comprised of not just students and staff members but also parents, family members, and community members. Because of that, PLEASE feel free to reach out to me with your feedback on our plans and procedures. We are a team, and we value your input.
Thanks for your continued support, and welcome to the 2018-2019 school year!

Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be a Learner
Our school values are the foundation of our school community. Our first objective each year is to introduce and teach our expectations, and our expectations are always completely aligned to our school values.
For years, we have taught the values of respect, responsibility, kindness, and safety. Over the course of the last year, we had numerous discussions about the need to incorporate academic-oriented expectations into our school values. After all, our ultimate goal for our students while they are in high school is to achieve academic success so that they can be prepared to achieve their future stories.
As a result, this year, we are defining our Cougar Pride through the following values:
Be Respectful
Be Responsible
Be a Learner
This modified framework enables us to merge our expectations for kindness with our expectations for respect. Similarly, we'll be combining values related to safety with those related to responsibility. "Be a Learner" allows us to identify specific expectations for students that will lead them to academic success.
During the first week of school, we will be teaching students specific expectations for various school settings (classroom, hallway, cafeteria, etc.). Teachers and staff members will revisit the expectations, as necessary, throughout the year.
Join us in celebrating our Cougar Pride!

Thank You, NYS Police!
As you may know by now, we are fortunate to be in a position to add a second School Resource Officer. Wayne County Sheriff Deputy Heath Wadhams joins our team this year. Deputy Brian Pitt will fortunately remain with us as well.
In addition to this support from the Sheriff's Office, the New York State Police Department has also informed us that they will be regularly monitoring our facilities to assist with the maintenance of safe and secure campuses for our students and staff.
We would like to thank our local law enforcement agencies for this support!
Please know that if you see a police vehicle at one of our district schools, it is likely that officers are simply performing a routine check and there is no cause for alarm. Thanks for your support.
Welcome to NRWHS!
In addition to welcoming our freshmen and other new students to our school community, we are very pleased to be welcoming several new staff members. These individuals bring with them great expertise and experiences, and we can't wait to see their contributions to our school community! Welcome!
