Rubric Validation for Assessments
Greetings Economics Instructors:
We are now ready to start collecting student samples so that the Assessments Committee can perform a dry run and test the validity of the rubrics that have been developed for Critical Thinking and Communications Skills. Remember this is voluntary but if we don’t get a robust data set it will be difficult for us to do our work. Samples must have student names removed and any grades or comments redacted. Our preference is that the samples be sent to us in electronic form (i.e. MS Word or PDF files). For any assessments that involve video or audio we are asking that a URL link be sent. There are several free file servers that can be used for hosting files of this sort such as Transferbigfiles.com. What we are requesting is a maximum of three samples from each course. Samples should come from the following:
- 1 face-to-face section
- 1 DE section (if applicable)
- 1 Dual credit section (if applicable)
From each of these modes of instructional delivery we are asking that each faculty member send us three different ranges of quality of work: Exemplary, Average, Below Average. An easier way think about this would be “A” “C” and “F” work. Essentially that means that for any one course we would need a maximum of nine samples of student work. Some courses may have fewer if dual credit or DE is not offered. Please send the files to hccassessments@gmail.com. Make sure to also fill out the CORE Assessment Artifact Form which is available through the link below.
Incidentally we also need volunteers to help us evaluate the assessments on Friday, April 17th at 10:30 a.m. The meeting will be held in the EDC building at Central College, which is located at the northeast corner of Caroline and Francis. The room will be on the first floor. The precise room number will be sent out as soon as we have one reserved. In any event the room number will be posted to the doors (there are only two) of the EDC building. Volunteers should email Richard Gosselin at richard.gosselin@hccs.edu.
Best Regards,
