Week-at-a-Glance (WAAG) for Jan. 23-27, 2023
Week of Prayer for Christian Unity
We give thanks for the many ways we are united to each other as disciples of Christ, and we pray together that we may be even more united one with another and all of us with Christ. At Legal School, all our morning prayers centred on the theme of Christian Unity this week.
We focus on and pray for unity amongst Christians all over the world.
During the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity – and every day – our schools are encouraged to pray that the barriers that divide the Christian community may be broken down and that one day we may be one in Christ, as Jesus is one with the Father.
Blessings for a wonderful week ahead,
Lisa Kleparchuk, Principal
Sheri Crowston, Vice Principal

Wednesday, January 25th, 2023 "Level Up Your Skills: Bell Let’s Talk"
This is a powerful day that was created to help end the stigma and start the conversation surrounding mental health and mental illness. Here are 5 ways to do just this:
USE PERSON-FIRST LANGUAGE. The words you use can make a difference. Choose words that help rather than hurt. For example, say “a person with a mental illness”, rather than “that person is crazy”.
EDUCATE YOURSELF AND OTHERS. Exploring and understanding information surrounding mental health and mental illness can help dispel harmful myths that encourage stigma.
BE KIND. Reach out to others, smile, or simply listen with an open heart and mind. These small acts of kindness can be an easy way to show you are there for someone. Avoid using phrases such as “you’ll get over it”, or “just relax and shake it off”. Instead, say “I’m sorry you aren’t feeling well”, or “what can I do to help?”
LiSTEN AND ASK. Sometimes, just being there for people you care about is all they need, or it may even be the first step towards seeking help and recovery. Ask non-judgemental questions such as “Is everything okay?”, or “How can I help?”
TALK ABOUT IT. Many people experiencing mental health issues fear judgement, which prevents them from reaching out. Be open to a conversation with others. This can help eliminate stigma.

CWL News – Faith, Service, and Social Justice
This week we will explore the core value of Faith (Hearts in Prayer). Spiritual development is the essence of the CWL. The League was established in 1920 as a lay organization of Catholic women who worked and advocated for social justice but who also valued their spiritual development. Councils at all levels are encouraged to provide opportunities for members to experience spiritual growth through prayer, recognizing the sanctity of life, studying Catholic teachings, encouraging vocations, ecumenism and interfaith endeavours, and circulating information that enhances church teachings. The St. Emile CWL council is excited to share the core value of Faith with our parish.
If you are interested in joining our council and helping our church and community, our next meeting is on January 24 at 7:00 at the rectory. For more information, contact Kathy at klkieser4@gmail.com.

Division Assurance Survey - Please give your feedback!
Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools values your opinion. As part of our Assurance process, please share your perspective through our Division Assurance Survey at the link or QR code below. This survey will inform planning and decisions at the school and divisional levels for the 2023/2024 school year.
Surveys are completely anonymous.
Families with children at more than one GSACRD school are asked to complete a survey for each site.
The survey will remain open from Monday, January 9, 2023, to Friday, February 3, 2023.
If you have a child in grade 4, 7, or 10, you may receive a similar survey from Alberta Education later. If so, we would encourage you to complete both surveys.
