(1793) Rejection from China
The significance of this date was the outcome that effected China many years later. The outcome of China's rejection of British's request of a trade relationship was the collapse of China's long-established imperial state and also the transformation of a central presence in the global economy , to a weak and dependent participant in a European dominated world system. (1798) Napoleon's invasion of Egypt
In 1798 the French embarked on a campaign in the Orient. The siginifigance of this conquest included the end of the mamaluke, the failure of the French's expedition to syria, and the capitulation of French adminstration in Egypt. The goal of the invasion was to ensure protection of the French's trade interests.
(1830s) Famine and rebellions in Japan
The tenpo famine or also known as "Great Tenpo Famine" was a famine that affected Japan during the edo period. The famine was said to have started in 1833 and lasted until 1837. The famine had the most effect in Northern Honshu and was caused by flooding and cold weather. The signifigance of the famine and the revolt against corrupt officials led by Oshio Heihachiro was the exposure of corrupted officers and the ruined reputation of the Tokugawa Bakfu.
(1838-1860) The Opium Wars
The Opium wars were two wars that occured in the mid-19th century. They involved the Anglo-Chinese dispute over British trade. The first opuim war was from 1839 to 1842. The second Opium war was from 1856 to 1860. The effect of the wars weakened the Qing dynasty and reduced China's seperation from the rest of the world.
(1850-1864) Taiping Uprising
The Taiping Uprising was a peasant rebellion against end corrupt govt. officials during 1850 to 1864 in China. The reasons for the rebellion included the abolishment of private property, a radical redistribution of land, and to end prostitiution and opium smoking.
Unequal Treaties
The unequal treaties were treaties between the British and Chinese that occurred in 1842. The treaties made were largely supported on the British's terms. One treaty in peticular was the treaty of Nanjing, which ended the first Opium War. The treaties were made to decimate any tension between the British and the Chinese. This eroded China's independence by the end of the century
Self-Strenghthening Movement/Boxer Rebellion (1899-1901)
The Self-Strenghthening Movement was a policy enforced by govt. officials in China during the 1860s and 70s. The movement was an attempt to reinvigorate a traditional China by cautiously borrowing from the west. The policy was to enforced to combat the country's mounting crisis both internally and externally. The failure of the SSM was evident at the end of the century when an anti-foreign movement known as the Boxer Uprising erupted in Northern China. The rebellion was led by militia organizations who called themselves "The society of Righteous and Harmonious Fists". They slaughtered Europeans and Chinese Christians, and laid siege to embassies in Beijing. After the rebellion was crushed by the western powers, it was clear that China was still a dependent country under foreign control.

Hello Mr. T this is Nathaniel Tracy I'm in your 4th period. I was hoping that you could extend the due date for my project to Monday the 21st. I have had a lot going on this week within my household and a lot of errands that I have had to take care of. I haven't really had any time to work on this outside of school and I would really appreciate the weekend to finish.
