Eaton Schoolwide Book Club
Eaton Schoolwide Book Club is back! For our 2022 selection, we will be reading Alvin Ho : Allergic to Girls, School, and Other Scary Things by Lenore Look. This book is available in many places in paperback, eBook, and audiobook formats if you would like your family to participate at home. More details will be coming soon about daily readings and questions as well as a culminating project.
From the publisher's website:
The first book in a hilarious chapter book series that tackles anxiety in a fun, kid-friendly way. Perfect for both beginning and reluctant readers, and fans of Diary of a Wimpy Kid!
A humorous and touching series about facing your fears and embracing new experiences—with a truly unforgettable character—from author Lenore Look and New York Times bestselling and Caldecott Honor winning illustrator LeUyen Pham.
Alvin, an Asian American second grader, is afraid of everything—elevators, tunnels, girls, and, most of all, school. He’s so afraid of school that, while he’s there, he never, ever, says a word. But at home, Alvin is a very loud superhero named Firecracker Man, a brother to Calvin and Anibelly, and a gentleman-in-training, just like his dad. With the help of his family, can Alvin take on the outside world without letting his fears get the best of him?
Middle School Registration
It is the exciting time of year when parents and 5th-graders begin to anticipate the transition to middle school. Mrs. McCoy (School Counselor) will receive information from the county at a meeting on March 17, 2022 and then will be in touch to walk families through the process shortly after. I will be sure to keep students/families informed through our parent newsletters, my website, middle school counselor visits, registration forms that will go home with students, and phone calls/emails as needed.
If you are unsure of your child's middle school assignment, you can check it using this link.
I look forward to working with your family during this process in the spring!
News from Nurse Tammy
1/14/22
Covid has continued to increase in our school and community. WIth so many changes as this disease continues to progress, it is difficult to know what to do.
Here are the highlights.
- If you have Covid in your home or had an Exposure to Covid, do not send your child to school until you talk to the school nurse. ( In some cases your child will be able to attend with a few extra provisions).
- If your child exhibits any illness symptom ( even a headache or runny nose) without other symptoms like a fever could be Covid. Keep your child home and seek medical attention ( or get a Covid test). We will require documentation for their return to school prior to a full 5day Covid quarantine.
- Continue to keep your family safe by wearing a mask when not in your home. It is required in our school, and recommended in many other locations.
- Another layer of protection is to get yourself and your child vaccinated. If you have been vaccinated and it has been more than 5 months, you should get a 3rd booster vaccine as soon as possible. Vaccine protection wears off over time and this extra booster
Please see the attachments below. These are tools to help you with these decisions regarding quarantines and booster shots.
