Blue Bear Notes
Mashburn Elementary
Class Placement 2019-2020
Dear Parents,
Can you believe that we only have 6 weeks of school left? This time of year prompts us to think of our children moving to a new grade level and class placement. We have been busy behind the scenes setting next year up to be another successful year! A great deal of thought and effort will go into the process of forming new classes for next year and each student will be placed into an instructional environment with input from a variety of sources, including the current classroom teacher and other staff members who may have pertinent information. We look closely at the blend of students within a class and the balance of the class academically, socially, culturally, and by gender.
While the process we use is comprehensive, if you as a parent would like to give further input regarding your child’s needs, we welcome this information. However, we ask you to understand that specific individual teacher requests or non-requests will not be accepted. If you have information to share, please be sure to make your requests based on educational factors unique to your child and we will take these into consideration as we make our final decisions.
Please complete the link below so that we may organize the information by grade level. Again, please refrain from naming specific teachers as these requests will not be accepted. Please submit this information by May 3, 2019. Thank you for partnering with the Mashburn Placement Committee as we thoughtfully work together to choose the best learning environment for all of our students.
EOG GA Milestones Assessment
Parents of 3rd, 4th and 5th graders:
Since spring is quickly approaching so is the EOG GA Milestone Assessment. Third and fourth grade students will be taking the ELA and Math sections. 5th grade students will be taking the ELA, math, science and social studies sections. The dates listed below are the specific dates for each grade level. We ask that you help us by not scheduling appointments in the morning during these testing dates. Also, making sure your child is at school on time will help set them up for success. More specific details regarding the EOG GA Milestone Assessment can be found on its learning and our school website.
Dates:
3rd grade- April 15-18
4th grade- April 23-26
5th grade- April 15-22
Volunteers During Testing
All Parents:
In order to help support our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students taking the EOG GA Milestone assessment we kindly ask that parent volunteers and lunch visitors refrain from coming during the days of testing April 15-26 due to alternate schedules and test security.
Thank you!
PTO News
Good Morning!
We don't have much to add to Blue Bear Notes this month. But, here goes:
We hope everyone had a great Spring Break and is ready to finish this year strong! Thank you to all of those who were at our General Assembly meeting just before Spring Break. Our treasurer, Molly Blakey, presented our budget and shared just how much YOU have made it possible to support our students, teachers and staff this year. We have been able to purchase new playground equipment, fulfill numerous teacher grants for various classroom supplies and enhancements, and our newest purchase was a new sound system for the Cafe! We could not have done all of this without you, our membership, and we are so grateful for you and your support!
Our 2019-2020 PTO Board was also elected at this meeting. Thank you to each of these parents who have stepped up to lead us into another great year!

Lunch Accounts- Please Read
Parents starting May 1st you can no longer charge meals to you child's cafeteria account. This means they need to have the appropriate amount of funds on their accounts to pay for meals. Breakfast is $1.50 and Lunch is $2.60 that is a total of $4.10 a day, $20.50 a week if they buy both each day. We do sell ala carte items for .75- $1.00. Please make sure the funds are there to pay for these items.
I urge you to sign up under www.mypaymentsplus.com to make sure the accounts are funded. With My Payments Plus you can monitor the account daily and set it up to send an email reminder when funds are due. You can also set it up for auto payments. You will need the students student ID number. Any money remaining in the students account will roll over to next year.
If you have any questions please contact Lisa Hasse, Cafeteria Manager.

Pirates...the Musical!
Our Pirates...The Musical play was a blast! Thank you to everyone who helped make it a success! Our student performers were remarkable and showed so much talent on the stage! Do any of our Blue Bears have a future on the big screen? It’s a real possibility! Special thanks to Jeremy Anderson, Tricia Price, Amber Smith, and Jessica Stanford for investing time into an event that was enjoyed by so many!
Special Education Department Survey
Dear Parents:
Thank you for partnering with Mashburn Elementary this year! Within our special education department, we are constantly looking for ways to improve and help our students be as successful as possible. Your involvement and collaboration is key to this process!
Please take a moment to help our department grow and improve by completing the GA DOE Parent Involvement survey (only 10 QUICK questions) at the following links: www.gadoe.org/Parent-Survey. The survey is completely anonymous and is available in both English and Spanish.
If you believe that the Mashburn Elementary Special Education department has done a great job this year with your student, please feel free to mark “strongly agree” and “very strongly agree” for your answers. These scores reflect the most positive environment in overall participation and parent satisfaction for Mashburn! However, we do value your true and honest opinion of our progress, so please know that your answers are confidential should you choose other answer choices!
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns. In addition, if you don’t have access to take the online survey, please let us know and we can supply you with a paper copy.
Thank you for your time,
Mashburn Special Education
7 Mindset Update
How will you show SPARK? In March we focused on the 7 Mindset The Time is Now. We learned about embracing every moment, getting in the zone, being vulnerable, and acting with purpose. Throughout April we will be reviewing what is means to show the 7 Mindsets and practicing do so. How will you show SPARK and the 7 Mindsets over the next few months?
