MAY 2017
Principal's Message:
On April 27th our Student Council held our annual staff volleyball game that matched our Maroon team versus our Grey team. We had another fantastic turn out of staff, students, and parents for this fun event that raised $874.00 that will go directly toward our school's donation to the Matawan Relay for Life on May 20th. Thank you to all parents and staff who volunteered to play or assist in making this evening a success!
Mr. Jerabek

Counselor News:
There are only a few more weeks left of the 2016-2017 school year which means that summer is right around the corner! Additionally, the end of the current school year means one step closer to the transition period (from 4th –5th grade or 5th grade –middle school) that our students will be going through in September 2017. This transition, although exciting, can be stressful for both students and their parents/guardians. Although our current 4th grade students have familiarity with the 5th grade teachers and the Lloyd Road Elementary School environment, 5th grade comes with more responsibility and higher expectations. For our 5th grade students, moving to a brand new building with more students, unfamiliar teachers, and different procedures can be anxiety provoking. However, it is important to remind our students/child(ren) that these feelings are normal and they will be okay.
As our children grow and mature, peer and adult relationships are ever-changing. Therefore, it is important to keep an open line of communication with your child and talk to them about these changes. Additionally, by talking to your child about their concerns and stressors, may help alleviate some of their anxiety. If you have a child that is transitioning into the middle school, this would be a great time for them to try new things. Whether they may want to join a club, try a new sport, or make new friends (this can be applied to our 4th graders as well), they should be encouraged to do so.
If you would like to read more about how to help your child with a successful transition into various grade levels, please go to http://blog.edmentum.com/parent-tips-successful-grade-transitions-kindergarten-through-high-school.
On another note, I would just like to say how proud I am of our students for all of their hard work! Keep it up throughout the next few weeks of school, you can do it!
Sincerely,
Ms. Rabbitt
School Counselor
Pajama Day
Nurse's Corner:
The best way to remove attached ticks is to grasp the tick with fine-tipped tweezers as close to the skin as possible; then pull straight up with a slow, steady force. Try to avoid crushing the tick or destroying it in any way. Clean the area of tick attachment with an antiseptic. Attached ticks should not be removed with noxious chemicals or by burning. This may cause injury to the skin and can increase the risk of transmission by causing the tick to regurgitate disease causing organisms into the body. Removed ticks can be saved in any sealed container to be later identified and tested. Do not place ticks in tape! This makes subsequent identification and testing difficult.
