VVSD Staff Spotlight- Rebecca Schuman, Tibbott & Oak View Elementary Music Teacher
We just completed Music in Our Schools Month. For nearly the last half-century, March is a time to raise awareness of the importance of music education for all children and an opportunity for music teachers to bring their music programs to the attention of the school and the community, and to display the value that school music brings to students of all ages.
With that in mind, just before Spring Break, we visited the Tibbott Elementary music classroom of Rebecca Schuman, who demonstrated her clear passion for music and the enthusiasm to share that appreciation with her students. It needs to be noted that Rebecca is still a music student, as she is a vocal performer continually enhancing her musical talent. The video contains a sample of Rebecca’s singing skills recorded before students entered her classroom.

Seen Around Valley View-
Students in Kathryn Kooi’s 6th grade math class at Humphrey Middle School learn about the formulas and properties of the circumference to circles. The students are utilizing the Vertical Workspaces concept which allows for greater collaboration by students as they work standing at the white board. Vertical Workspaces also allow teachers to be able to view all the working groups at-a-glance and the ability to easily jump in and coach and teach as needed.
The annual STEP Talent Show displayed the array of talents of VVSD students in the Secondary Transition Experience Program. Jack brought along a friend in Kermit the Frog for a stand-up comedy routine. Our favorite joke: “What does our bus driver say to Kermit?” The answer: “Hop on!”
On the second full day of spring, VVSD Superintendent Dr. Keith Wood and the Lukancic Flame greeted parents at morning arrival as the graupel fell from the sky in nature’s cruel way of reminding us that March can be more like December than like May.
