Chisholm Update
March 1, 2024
Happy Friday Charger Families!
We are through the first week of April, which brings a variety of changes as the grass and trees start to bloom or change colors along with longer days and warmer weather. During this time of year, we have a variety of school related events and activities coming in the following weeks.
This coming Monday, April 8th, is the day of the Eclipse. We sent out a flyer earlier this week outlining specifics of the afternoon when the full event takes place around 1:44 pm. We have purchased protective eyewear for all students and we will have inside recess for the day to help protect students from looking toward the sun without the eyewear on. If you would like for your child to not participate or opt out of this event, please email or contact your child's teacher.
The 4th grade Family Fun night is scheduled for next Thursday with two sessions beginning at 6:00 and 7:00. A flyer of the specifics was sent home last week to 4th-grade parents or you can click here.
- The 6:00 performance is for the students in Lawrence, Kitchel and Wiebers.
- The 7:00 session is for students in Dale, Cole, and Colgan.
The week after next we are scheduled to begin our OSTP exams for 3rd-grade (April 16th and 17th, ELA exams) and 5th grade (April 18th, Science). The following week we have ELA exams for 4th and 5th-grade (April 22nd and 23rd), 5th-grade writing (April 24th), and 3rd, 4th, and 5th-grade math (April 25th and 26th). All exams will begin around 9:00 in the morning, so please have students at school on time and ready to do their best to display what they have learned over the year.
Last week, Chisholm held our spring book fair for students during school on April 1-4. We would like to thank our PTO and the volunteers that helped us operate this fair during the school day and manage the money for purchases books from the fair.
Our students also had the opportunity to watch Lyric's performance of Cinderella on Monday, April 1st. This event was scheduled for earlier in February, but we had to postpone this presentation to this week, and we appreciate them having the chance to experience these shows, which are always amazing.
It's always important to note as we move into this time of year in Oklahoma that weather conditions could bring severe weather. The district will always monitor weather and alert schools if conditions become severe or tornadic. We have a tornado rated shelter at Chisholm and if conditions warrant, we could move the students into it. We are required to practice moving towards this shelter a couple of times a year, and our students have always done a great job doing so efficiently. Hopefully, the need to use this shelter during the school day doesn't occur, but we do have a plan in the event it does occur.
Just a reminder that the April PTO meeting is scheduled to take place this coming Monday, April 8th at 9:00 in our cafeteria. We would love to see you there if you can make it. Notes from this meeting will be added to future newsletters.
Attention Chisholm 5th-grade students that will be at Cimarron for the 24-25 school year, there is a green button below for you to purchase supplies and will be open until June 15 when the ability to order supplies next year as 6th graders at Cimarron closes.
Have a great weekend!

The Edmond Creative - The Edmond Creative is a monthly newsletter that provides an update on Edmond Public Schools Fine Arts. The April Volume can be found by clicking this link. This can be used as a resource to discover what great things are happening, and provide information for fine arts educators throughout the month.
The April Smart Social Tip of the Month is full of information on a social media app we hear a lot about in the news, TikTok. What is it exactly? Why do students want to spend time on the app? What should you know about it as parents or guardians? And what are some of the biggest concerns related to TikTok? That information is available by clicking this link: https://smartsocial.com/post/tiktok-app?org=edmond
Edmond Early Birds Parent Program -Sunbeam Family Services is providing a parent program designed to help parents with children from birth to 5 years of age. They have dates upcoming in April along with information of what will be presented on a flyer below for those that might be interested in attending one of these classes.
Please help us during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal by not turning right on red as you enter the parking lot from the west. This will provide those turning left from the east an opportunity to enter into the parking lot as cars move along.
Dismissal Reminder for Spring Hill/ Old Farm/ Thornbrook walkers should only be used by students that live in those areas. If your student doesn't live in those neighborhoods they need to either use bus or car rider to get home at the end of the day. We don't want to send students into a neighborhood that don't live in that neighborhood.
Calling all Substitutes - If you are interested in becoming a substitute, as a classroom teacher or classroom assistant, or even if you want to inquire more about the possibility of becoming a substitute in the future, please click on this link or you can call the school. The district has recently approved some additional incentives ( Subs now get paid twice a month and if you work 6 out of 10 days in a pay period, they can now earn an addition $100 in the pay period).
