Our Vision "the WHY"
Educators within the Mount Horeb Area School District are committed to grading practices that support the learning process, encourage student success, and accurately reflect student progress toward mastery of identified standards. The purpose of the grading system at the Mount Horeb Area School District is to clearly, accurately, consistently, and fairly communicate student learning progress and achievement. Students need to be at the heart of their learning. Therefore, practices and systems are put in place that make students aware and active partners of their learning in order to meet the determined standards for proficiency and achievement.
As always, if you ever have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.

Forward Exam 2024
Dear Mount Horeb Area School District Families:
During the month of April, your student will participate in the Wisconsin Forward Exam. The Forward Exam tests students in the areas of English/Language Arts and Mathematics in grades 3-8. In addition, students in grades 4 and 8 are tested in Science and Social Studies. One or more subtests may be administered daily during the identified time frame and it is very important that your student be in school during this time.
Please encourage students to take the test seriously and do the best they can. Their performance on the assessment will not affect their grades. However, the results of these tests will be used in conjunction with other information to help school staff make determinations regarding curriculum, placement, and services to best support students.
We ask all of our students to - DO YOUR BEST - TAKE YOUR TIME - CHECK YOUR WORK!

Weekly Updates
Week at Glance documents are created each week by all of our teachers to give parents an overview of the assignments, content, and assessments that will be coming up for the following week.
They can be found on the Middle School webpage under the Academics tab. They are updated weekly on Friday afternoons.
Attendance Matters
We are grateful for everyone who has helped keep a routine for showing up to school while supporting students and families. Daily routines are essential for reducing stress and creating a sense of security for students and adults. Thank you in advance for taking steps to keep your child healthy and send them to school unless they are truly sick. Every day of school is an important opportunity for students to learn as well as connect to peers and their teachers.
We thank:
· Our students and their families who do their best to show up to class every day even when it isn’t easy.
· Our staff who have gone above and beyond to help make school a welcoming learning environment where students can thrive.
· Our many, many healers and helpers - the support staff and community volunteers who provide the extra hands and attention our children need.
