PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Hidden River Families--
If you had happened to stop by Hidden River this past week, you would have seen our ASB Elections, our awards ceremonies for each grade level, some beautiful and creative student posters hanging on our cafeteria walls to honor our Hawks of the year, students and staff playing together (in classrooms and outside), chalk poetry and encouraging messages written across our sidewalks and blacktop areas, staff members including students in some light-hearted joking, the decorating of our 8th graders with candy leis, and every student having the opportunity to walk out of our awards time with ice cream, their yearbook and/or an autograph booklet…You also would have seen the satisfaction of many students completing their last assignments for the year, experiencing a sense of pride and accomplishment in getting caught up on their final projects. This past week brought a necessary sense of celebration and closure to our 2020-2021 school year journey. We are excited to share some of the videos of these celebrations:
HRMS 2020-2021 Special Recognitions Video
HRMS Virtual Band Concert
HRMS 8th Grade Science Rube Goldberg Projects
Have a great weekend and a restful summer!

Principal, Hidden River
SUMMER LEARNING RESOURCES
Did you know Monroe is offering some fantastic learning opportunities for summer learning?
Summer school program is focused on providing students rich, experiential learning opportunities using problem solving and STEM-based approaches to help students engage reading, writing and math skills growth. Use this link for more details about our summer school program.
Access to reading materials: HRMS will be having a bookmobile this summer! Students can order books online, and then one of our buses will provide a bookmobile service for deliveries closer to your home! More details in the library section of this newsletter.
Sno-Isle library access: Monroe students will be able to access all Sno-Isle library material without their own library card this summer. Students can use their student ID (which they all wrote down this past week in their ELA classes) to check-out Sno-Isle library materials.
Keep reading! If nothing else, set up some routines for your students to read for at least 30 minutes per day. Reading material can range from magazine articles, to blog posts, to books students enjoy and have read time after time, to new books. The fewer requirements the better, as your student will likely be more successful meeting the 30 minute per day target if they have a lot of choice of their reading materials.
THINKING ABOUT NEXT YEAR
Sports and extra-curricular activities are returning to the middle school level next year! Please keep an eye out for information about our fall sports options (Cross country, Football, and Girls Softball).
Related to the re-start of sports-- we will be actively seeking coaches for all sports across the year. If you are interested in coaching, please email Stacey Henriquez at henriquezs@monroe.wednet.edu, and she can send you in the right direction.
We will be sending out return-to-school information for all students around the third week of August. This will include dates on when to expect student schedules, any events to kick-off the school year, and other relevant information.
Please consider becoming part of our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) next year. This has been a vital parent partnership over the years at Hidden River, and we are in need of more families to get involved in this way. If you are interested in our PTO opportunities, please contact Kathy Jackson at jacksonk@monroe.wednet.edu
CARE AND CONNECTION
This past year has brought tremendous financial and mental health challenges for many of our families and students. In some cases families and/or students are now without a place to live, or soon could be. The Eviction Moratorium will end on June 30th, and we are working hard to identify families/students that have been, or will be impacted by this to ensure they have available resources. We are aware that even with the robust outreach by staff this year, many of our families/students still remain unidentified as displaced and therefore unaware of the protections and benefits available to them under the McKinney Vento Act.
To get help, contact Lily Shafer or the district’s homeless education liaison:

FAMILY FEEDBACK
From the Monroe School District: We know this year has been very difficult, and we are developing plans to support our students as we prepare to move into the new school year. To ensure our plans meet the needs of students, we are seeking input from families on what you see as the most relevant needs of your students and feedback on our Summer Program Plan and Academic and Student Well-being Recovery Plan. We know this year has brought many surveys your way but these two surveys are very important and we thank you in advance for your participation.
Access the surveys here: https://www.monroe.wednet.edu/about/news/new-page/~post/family-input-needed-20210519
Thank you again for your support!
