Molly Minute: Weekly Update
April 12, 2024
Dear Molly Brant Families,
We enjoyed hearing about everyone's experience with the eclipse - what an event to observe! This week we had the International Day of Pink which is a day of visibility for all things invisible. We are sending HUGE Thank you to our SAC who organized a FREE HOT LUNCH for all students for National Grilled Cheese Day (today!).
Our PA Day on Monday was very purposeful and productive: staff worked to deepen their understanding of how to gather and interpret Literacy and Math diagnostic data, and collaborated to plan next steps to support student achievement based upon the data.
Welcome to Mme Hogan in primary-junior French and Mr. Winton who will be teaching in Ms. Patterson's class.
Our Grade 3 & 6 students will be engaging in EQAO assessments in reading, writing, and mathematics sometime between May 8th and June 12th. We will be working with our in-school EQAO team soon to determine the schedules and dates for MBES.
A reminder that grade 7 and 8s go out for lunch on THURSDAYS only with parent permission. Students each their lunch in their classes on all of the other days. If students leave school property without permission, parents will receive a call from school staff.
Next week will be our first 5 day week in a while! We can't wait to see everyone dressed up for DECADES DAY on Friday, April 19th!
School Climate Survey - April 22nd to May 3rd
School boards are required to conduct school climate surveys of students, school staff, and families at least once every two years as one way to gather data that supports creating a positive school climate (Education Act, S. 169.1, (2.1)). The 2023-2024 School Climate Survey will be available to all LDSB students in Grade 4 to 12 from April 22 to May 3 to help LDSB understand more about student experiences at our schools & learning centres.
Have a great weekend,
K. Witley (Principal)
S. Barling, J. Bocking and C. Skinner (Vice-Principals)
and the Molly Brant Staff

Spring Running: Marathon Club and Road Races
Thank you to Ms. Linseman and Ms. Conner for spearheading our spring running.
Students are encouraged to join the running club for the joy of running, to help increase their fitness level, and prepare for spring and summer sports and the opportunity to run at the District Road Races. Students will be selected to participate in the races based on their interest, commitment, and ability to comfortably run the course.
Spring running is open to Grade 3-8 students. There will be two running tryouts next week. Students that make the team will attend all subsequent practices and the two road races (Bayridge Road Race and LCVI Road Race).
Bayridge Road Race will take place on Friday, April 26th in the afternoon. The LCVI Road Race will take place on Wednesday, May 1st. More information will be provided closer to the races.
Some classes will also take part in Marathon Club with their classes between April 2 and May 30:

Grades 3-8 will complete a full marathon of 42.2 km
We can't wait to get our Molly students moving!
Attendance Matters!
Since the start of the pandemic, we have noticed a marked increase in the number of student absences.
When children miss a day they miss important literacy and math learning, and can fall behind on lessons that build from day to day. Students who are regularly late, even if it is only 10 minutes, often miss critical reading instruction, which often happens first thing in the morning.
We know that children need to stay home when they are sick, and the rules for staying home have changed throughout the pandemic. Please contact the school if you need support with attendance issues. Let's work together and get every student here every day!
2024-25 Kindergarten Registration Information
Welcome to Kindergarten! This is an exciting time for both you and your student. Kindergarten is a wonderful experience and your student’s next phase on their journey of learning.
We are now accepting new student registrations for this September 2024. If your student is four or five by the end of December, now is the time to register.
Kindergarten offers a wonderful new world of learning and growing. We learn how to read, how to write and we make new friends. Your student will be challenged and encouraged to do their very best. In Kindergarten classrooms, a teacher and an early childhood educator work together as a team. This partnership helps to create a nurturing learning environment; giving every student the opportunity to learn in the way that is best suited to their individual strengths and needs. Our caring team of educators is with them every step of the way!
We look forward to meeting you!
** If you cannot register online, please contact the school**
Head Lice
Head lice is quite common in young people and schools. We do our best to check our students semi-regularly but it is suggested that you do the same at home, if you can. Students with head lice are not excluded from classes so unless it is treated, it may keep spreading. Here is some info to help you out.
Municipal Fee Assistance Program (MFAP)
For working people who qualify for the Municipal Fee Assistance Program (MFAP), there is also an option for health benefits.
