The Great Depression
John Stienbeck
John wrote 27 books and received the Nobel Piece Prize for literature.
He was born in Salinas, California. His dad was a county treasurer while his mom was a former school teacher. John lived in rural town growing up. He would work on ranches over the summer and this is where he learned the harsh side of being human. Parts of this experience influenced some of Of Mice and Men. He attended Stanford but didn't get a degree. He lived in a cottage during the depression. His fist novel was, Cup of Gold. He later died in New York City in 1968.
