Principal's Message
Dear Families,
I’m so happy to announce our seven students who were honored and recognized at school for being chosen as leaders for the month of November. Each of the students was nominated by a staff member for demonstrating one of the seven habits described in the book, The Leader in Me, by Steven R. Covey and in the series of books titled, The 7 Habits of Happy Kids, by Sean Covey. Each student demonstrated what a highly effective leader looks like. Students were given a leadership T-shirt and a certificate. Congratulations to Edward G., Kaleb H., Riley H., Marceya C., Julianna M., Carsen M., and Jameer M. We’re thankful for these great leaders!
My time as principal at Pickerington Elementary is coming to a close. Over the past 12 years, I know that’s hard to believe, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed getting to know families and your children. Some of you may not know that my own daughters attended this school many moons ago, so that has made this principalship even more special.
I’m retiring in December to allow for a smoother transition for your next principal, Mr. Dave Zwiebel. The support you’ve shown me has been incredible and my wish is that you will continue to offer that same support, or more, to Mr. Z.
I hope to see you out in the Pickerington Community since I live here. Take care, be safe, and have a wonderful holiday season, even if we can't celebrate as we normally would.
Best Wishes,
Melissa Moriarty
Principal

Virtual Family Reading Night!
Dear Pickerington Elementary Families,
We would like to invite you to our 1st Virtual Family Reading Night! The event will take place from December 21st - January 4th. You can complete the activities at your own pace in your own space! If your children are restless or bored over winter break, this is the perfect solution to keep them engaged.
Please visit the link https://bit.ly/FamilyReadingPE to access all of the online activities. The theme is “Winter Fun,” and the reading activities celebrate the traditions of the Pickerington community.
Please make sure to complete the Exit Ticket (Google Form) linked in the presentation. There will be a “prize pack” drawing from all completed Exit Tickets on Friday, January 8th!
If you have questions, please contact your Pickerington Elementary Reading Service Team Teachers: Mrs. Bowman, Mrs. Klamo, Mrs. Gutzeit, Mrs. Wolfinger & Ms. Hennessy, Mrs. Horsford, or Ms. Woodward (Chairperson).
Have fun and keep reading over break!
Take a Holiday "Field Trip"
We wanted to share this Holiday Celebrations Guide, from the Ohio Department of Health, as a resource for parents and students to learn about Holidays Around the World. Help your kids learn about festive traditions from around the world. Thanks to Violet Elementary "Violet Views" for the article and idea.
Calamity Days?
Calamity days are not school closure days as they have been in the past. Calamity days have been converted to virtual learning days. You will note that students are still required to attend school virtually from home.
All students need to log in for attendance through Infinite Campus on the calamity virtual learning day. Note that Infinite Campus may be slightly delayed for a student who would have otherwise been “in person.”
Students will be able obtain assignments via SeeSaw in grades K-4 and Google Classroom in grades 5-12 starting at 10:00 AM. Virtual work needs to be issued for the students who were scheduled to attend in-person. This is under the assumption the opposite cohort already has direction on what work needs completed on the planned-for virtual day.
All teachers will give their best attempt to arrange for and communicate with their students to attend at minimum one Google Meet session. Invites should come from the homeroom teacher. For related arts teachers, 1:00-2:00 has been reserved for Google Meets and other work with students. We are sympathetic to the adjustments families need to make for a calamity virtual learning day, but strongly encourage students to attend their Meet times if possible.
VLA will follow their normal schedule to the best extent possible. Any changes will be communicated by the classroom teacher.
Please contact your building principal or classroom teachers for further guidance or clarification.
Sincerely,
Sabrina Woodruff,
Chief Academic Officer
