Carlsbad Caverns
Beneath the Chihiuahuan Desert and Guadalupe Mountains of southeastern New Mexico is a hidden wonder. It's hard to imagine that under a rather bleak stretch of cactus, rock and sand there exist a world of exquisite beauty, hidden in more than 300 known caves.
International UFO Museum
The International UFO Museum lies in the famed town of Roswell, the site of a supposed 1947 UFO crash. Housed in the old Plains Theater, the kitschy museum features exhibits related to the Roswell incident, its purported cover-up and other reported alien encounters around the world.
Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument
High on a cliff above the head waters of the Gila river in south eastern New Mexico sits a series of stone dwellings tucked cleverly into the mountain. Situated 180 feet above the cannon floor rest homes of the Native American Mogollon culture. The Dwellings at Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument were most likely constructed in the late 1200's and have a strong resemblance to the ancestral Puebloans that lived all across Southwestern America.
Slaughter Canyon
Slaughter Canyon Cave has some of the most beautiful and enchanting cave formations in the park. The tour takes you into the darkness where you will see not only beautiful decorations but remnants of days gone by, during a time when the cave was mined for its guano. Today, the trail cuts through an ancient pile of guano and if you look close you will see the tiny, fragile bones of a long extinct bat. T
Sandia Peak Tramway
Located in Albuquerque’s Sandia Mountain, the Sandia Peak Tramway travels for 2.7 miles, carrying passengers to the summit’s peak at 10,378 feet. The aerial tramway provides sweeping vistas of the Rio Grande Valley. While the base features a restaurant, the peak also offers a sit-down eatery and 24 miles of hiking trails.
Chaco Canyon
Chaco Canyon National Historic Park lies near the Four Corners region and explores the lifestyle of the prehistoric Chacoan people who inhabited the area from A.D. 850 to 1250. The park features well-preserved pueblo buildings, some with two stories. Other on-site attractions include a museum, gift shop and nine-mile looped trail with direct access to the park’s major sites.
