Message from the Principal
Cinco de Mayo is not the Mexican Independence Day, which is actually celebrated on September 16. Cinco de Mayo refers to the Battle of Puebla, when the French army invaded the town secretly. What is a source of pride for people from Mexico, and especially those from Puebla, is that the Mexican army won the battle with a much smaller army than the French.
Cinco de Mayo is not celebrated nationwide in Mexico, but it’s a significant and important celebration in the town of Puebla. Cinco de Mayo in the United States is an opportunity to celebrate and learn about the Mexican culture and its diversity. It is also a way to recognize the value of the Mexican presence in this country.
Also, I want to wish all of the beautiful mom’s a wonderful Mother’s Day.

Counselor Connection
Our students at IHCS go through many transitions. Our students need us to help prepare and support them through these changes. Every year I provide presentations for our students to prepare them for the transition to high school and to middle school. As 8th graders and their families began to decide what school they would attend next year and what classes they would choose, we had a presentation for parents in December and for students in March. Last week I had a presentation for 5th grade parents to prepare and support them as they get ready for their students to transition to middle school. 5th graders will also get a presentation about moving to middle school sometime in May.
