Wrapping up the month
September is coming to a close, and we are getting ready to head into October. The weather this past week has been glorious and full of outdoor recess!
Our students have been working hard and completed the first round of NWEA academic testing for the year. They are having fun learning about tectonic plates, clouds, weather, and so many other things in Science. Lots of books are being checked out from the library and kids are learning their letters, reading sentences, talking about chapter books they are reading, and learning to make inferences about characters in their books. So many amazing things happening here at school!
As we get started in October, we are busy working on a plan to bring back Trick or Treat Street in some form. We are so excited about that! Please stay tuned for more information and details!
We will also have parent/teacher conferences in October, and those schedules will be coming out in the next several weeks as well.
A PTA meeting is scheduled for tomorrow night, September 27 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in our library. We hope you can make it!
Finally, thank you for all of your support every day. Our staff appreciates it very much.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out through email, or give us a call at 816-892-1650.

Face Coverings: Update-Please Read
Dear parents,
I want to share information with you to clarify the protocol regarding face coverings.
On Sept. 23, the School Board updated its COVID-19 safety protocols about face coverings.
The Board voted to continue the current practice of making face masks optional at all grade levels. However, within that directive were provisions that could make face masks required if certain measures are exceeded.
At the current time, face masks are optional at all grade levels.
Face masks at all grade levels will be required when the district-wide percentage of students and staff who are in isolation or quarantine at the end of a given week exceeds the 4% tracing rate for two consecutive weeks.
Face masks will return to being highly recommended when the district-wide percentage of students and staff who are in isolation or quarantine at the end of a given week is less than the 2% tracing rate for two consecutive weeks.
The tracing rate will be measured by the total number of students and staff in isolation or quarantine divided by the number of students and staff in-person. It is a measure the district has reported weekly since August 2020.
The tracing rate will be determined at the end of the business day each Friday and posted to the district website. Any changes to the masking protocol will become effective the following Monday.
This action by the Board does not change the expectation of face masks on buses. Face masks on buses are required due to a federal regulation.
Each day, new reported cases are posted here.
This page also includes a chart showing seven days of quarantines and isolations for students and staff. Each Friday afternoon, the district's tracing rate is updated.
