Adolf Hitler- Time's Man of the Year
Time Magazine names Adolf Hitler the Man of the Year, since then they have received much criticism for this. Time responds that they do not condone the acts that Adolf participates or leads but the Time Magazine Man of the Year is given that award because that person had the biggest effect on foreign affairs over the year. Hitler, unmistakably made the biggest difference and not for the greater good either. Hitler upon signing a treaty with Italy who was defending Austria up until the signing after which they began to draw out. Hitler then gave the Austrians a list of 10 demands and the chief demand being that they make a man named Seyss-Inquart the minister. The cover picture a picture is a picture of hitler playing his “hymnal of hate” in a desecrated cathedral with a wheel of dead victims spinning on top of him. This is a very unsatisfying picture to the world because of this mans problems and massive killings he has produced throughout the world. One concerned jewish citizen from Germany who wished to remain anonymous from the obvious threat of speaking out against Hitler said “I’m so scared, hes having his officers break our shop windows and even beat our families.” Personally, I’m just astonished as an American citizen that this is actually going on in our wonderful world and by their treatment even when there's no rules regarding jews just that they are frowned upon amoungst in the german society. But a statement from President Roosevelt earlier last month said states “I will work hard with congress to help these people and to begin to end Hitler's reign.” Earlier today Vice-President Henry Wallace said that “Hitler simply is trying to enforce laws, and the U.S.applauds his efforts to end crime, but he has informed us of an unwantedness of the jewish community in Germany so if this continues President Roosevelt will make the decision to intervene.” With the good news the entire country and world can rest easy knowing that some of the best minds in the world are working on plans to step in if things do not get settled soon in Germany.
Kyle Ballard3rd Anniversary of Charles Jr.
A shocking story, involving a famous man and his strife when his family was pointlessly attacked , and his beloved child Charles kidnapped. On the horrid night of March 1st, 1932, the famed Charles Lindbergh, his wife and son, and nursemaid Betty Gow were residing in their New Jersey home. At approximately 10 o’clock that evening, Nurse Gow returned to check on baby Charles Jr., and was horrified to find that Charles Jr. had disappeared from his crib. She ran to check with Mrs. Lindbergh, who had just gotten out of the bath, if she had taken the baby. She hadn’t. As Charles Sr. went to the nursery, a white envelope was found on the radiator. It read this.
Dear Sir!

10.000$ in 5$ bills After 2–4 days

Charles Lindbergh preferred to keep communications with the kidnappers void of the police. He did this so that the criminals would not be scared into something rash by the threat of imprisonment. When it came time to exchange a ransom with the criminals, Lindbergh met with the kidnappers, and informed them that he could only raise 50,000 dollars worth of the ransom. The Kidnappers accepted the money, and gave Lindbergh a note, saying that Charles Jr. was being held on a boat titled Nelly, at Martha’s Vineyard. When authorities arrived, there was no sign of any such vessels. The Lindbergh family had been cheated. 2 months later, a small child’s dead body, identified as Charles Jr., was found near the family home. 2 years after this, one of the criminals, Bruno Hauptman, was apprehended, tried, and sentenced to death after a large amount of the ransom was found in his house. This article has been written in memory of Charles Jr., and pray for the lindbergh family who has suffered this terrible loss in their life.

Tom Robinson 1912-1935
Tom Robinson died this morning of multiple shots to the body. Tom had been accused of a rape crime in weeks past. Although many believing his innocence, that was not the case. Mr. Robinson was sent to prison. He made a life decision and decided he could not live any other way but free. Tom plotted an escape from the prison. When he tried to escape he was shot and killed. It is said that he was shot over seven times. Tom was a hardworking man who took pride in his work. Sadly he was judged just because of the color of his skin. He often did favors for neighborly family and friends, sadly, this is what got him accused and convicted in the end. Tom is survived by wife and kids. Everyone will surely miss him, his family, and also his fellow co-workers on the farm. Everyone will sure learn a lesson from the death of Tom Robinson, that life is short and you need not judge people until you have climbed in their skin and walked around in it. Everyone deserves to life a happy and bountiful life. Tom did not fight when accused of his crime; he went calmly, because he knew that all he could do was hope for a truthful outcome of the trial. He held faith in Atticus Finch of Maycomb County to reside as his lawyer. Atticus then could not win over the sovereignty of the Jury, them being extremely biased. Tom Robinson was an excellent human being; he will be greatly missed in Maycomb County.

Citizen of the Year
This section of the newspaper is annually devoted to a member of Maycomb County who goes above and beyond in the department of citizenship. This year that honor is bestowed upon Atticus Finch, beloved father and upstanding lawyer.
In this year’s controversial trial involving Tom Robinson and the Ewells, Mr. Finch proudly asserted his position in defending Robinson. Although the outlook on him winning the case was not bright, he put his career on the line in order to defend Robinson most effectively. When the case was lost, even still he attempted to appeal the case to free Robinson. Unfortunately Mr. Finch was unable to see his endeavour through because of Robinson’s untimely death. Throughout the entire length of the case, Mr. Finch took a personal interest in his client and did all he could to mete out justice.
Mr. Finch is beloved by his son, Jeremy, and daughter, Jean Louise. Although the passing of his wife many years ago has made parenting more challenging for him, he does his utmost to care for his children and raise them in the right way. He spends quality time with Jeremy and Jean Louise daily and has a hired cook, Calpurnia, to look after them when he is working or otherwise preoccupied. Because of his occupation as a lawyer, he teaches his children the proper way to treat people with respect and fairness. He also shows these qualities in his own life, improving the community by upholding judicial laws. Because of his caring heart and courage to take a stand for justice, Atticus Finch has been nominated Citizen of the Year.

Letter to the Editor
Dear Eddy,
This is my first time writing, but I’ve been reading the Chronicle since I was just a young buck. The reason I’m writing this letter is the horrid situation with that animal Tom Robinson. The whole town has been abuzz about it, and rightfully so. But more shocking than a nigger* attacking a white girl is the uptake of his defense by one Maycomb citizen Atticus Finch. The guts this man has, defending a black man who attacked and raped a young woman of 19 years old. The once upstanding Atticus Finch will now be known forever as a “nigger-lover.” Will he be able to show his face on the streets of Maycomb, for these weeks before the trial and forever after? The nerve of that man, attempting to set free a man who so clearly is guilty of trespassing against one of God’s children, a defenseless white woman.
Whatever happened to the proud town of Maycomb? The dignified, respectable white citizens of this historic city used to be able to stroll the streets of Maycomb, free of worry and fear. Now, with this town being surrounded by filthy, cheating negroes, a person isn’t safe, not even in their own home! What will it be like 10 years from now, will negroes be running this town? There is a reason that the negroes work under us, and have for hundreds of years. It’s because they are animals who cannot be trusted. The negroes need to be put back in their place, in Maycomb along with the rest of the U.S.
A Concerned Citizen
Evan Strack
Dear Citizen,
Well, I understand where youre coming from but I completely disagree maybe you should see it from the black community's perspective, they are already looked down upon by many of the white community. Although the civil rights movement already occurred and they receive “fair” treatment for everything they do equal to any whites, they are not treated fairly and are looked down upon in most aspects of life. In my opinion its how people were raised, with no offense towards you, I think that your view is one that misunderstands the black population. They are people too just like you and me, misunderstood for their skin type it is the only difference between them and us. With different groups coming together in an effort to pass hate on minorities, such as the klu klux klan, I think as human beings and a white population we are taking this the complete wrong way. We need to come to an understanding that all men are created equal and should therefore be treated equally regardless of race. A black man should not get a more severe punishment on something a white man would be given lesser for, we need to break the boundaries between the two populations and turn us into one United States of America. No more black and white drinking fountains but a fountain for human beings, and only one school so everyone can get the same education, paid the same wages, with no difference because of their race. In that sense it should not matter if a white man represents a black man, this is necessary to break barriers and not everyone will agree but it is necessary for them to understand and in order to get the country where it should be as far as racial equality goes. Each person is an individual with the same rights as another with no exceptions due to race, color, religious beliefs, or morals. All people should be given equal opportunities even if it involves being represented by someone of a different race.
Sincerely,
Eddy

Homemade Ice Cream
Makes 1 1/2 quarts
Serves 8
Ingredients:
2 vanilla beans, split lengthwise and scraped
2 cups milk, chilled
6 large egg yolks
3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons sugar
2 cups heavy cream
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Directions:
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the vanilla beans and scrapings with the milk. Bring to a gentle boil. Remove from heat, and let steep, covered, 30 minutes.
Prepare an ice bath; set aside. In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the whisk attachment, beat egg yolks and sugar on medium-high speed until thick and pale, about four minutes.
Place milk mixture over medium-high heat; bring just to a simmer. Slowly pour about 1/4 cup hot-milk mixture into egg-yolk mixture, beating on low speed until blended. Continue adding milk, about 1/2 cup at a time, beating until incorporated after each addition.
Return mixture to saucepan; stir with a wooden spoon over low heat until mixture is thick enough to coat back of spoon, three to five minutes. Custard should retain a line drawn across the back of the spoon with your fingertip.
Remove pan from heat; stir in chilled cream to stop cooking. Pour custard through a fine sieve into a medium bowl set in ice bath; let stand, stirring occasionally, until chilled. Stir in extract. Freeze in an ice-cream maker according to manufacturer's instructions.
