Newsletter Week 3, Term 4
Huirangi Primary School, Monday 31st October 2022
Kia Ora Koutou, Hello Everyone!
Term 4 has got off to a great start! Pets Day was a fantastic event, proving that we can hold an equally successful event on a weekday. It was wonderful seeing so many parents and extended family here for the day. It always warms my heart seeing the effort that our students put into their pets, showing love, care and dedication to present their pet as best they can! Another pleaser was the ownership that our senior students put into planning really effective stalls. They did this with guidance, but it was awesome to see all of their stalls 'open for business' without too much adult support. This will be something we continue in the future, as will the cake auction! This was a true crowd pleaser! The calibre of cakes that the men in our community donated was amazing!
Thank you to our Home and School, Brenda Honnor and Mrs Hunt for their planning and prep for our Pets Day. Events like these aren't easy to organise and takes months of hard work! Thanks to Joanne Alldridge for co ordinating a wonderful group of helpers on the day. Thank you to all of you who volunteered to help out. We truly appreciate you!
Next Thursday please come along to hear local artist and wellbeing speaker, Paul Rangiwahia. I have invited Paul along to a whānau hui to share his thoughts on wellbeing and ways to cope with the stresses of every day life.
I will shout cake and coffee for everyone who comes! This is an adults only event. I look forward to seeing you all. Please spread the word! Further information is included in this newsletter.

While Paul certainly doesn’t claim to have all the answers to great mental health and wellbeing, he outrivals by challenging people to look closely at what they can positively influence within their own lives, all delivered in an engaging, unique and down-to-earth style.
Paul’s kōrero use stories, history, humour, experiences and a good lashing of common sense. He gives pragmatic and simple advice on things like letting go, trusting your intuition and how to create greater self-awareness are communicated with clarity and mana. A natural presence and the ability to break down the complexities of modern life and examine the key elements that are able to be influenced have resonated with captivated audiences across New Zealand.
Please come along to this free adults only event. It will be "so worth it".

Keeping Ourselves Safe
The aim of the programme is to:
- teach students a range of safe practices that they can use when interacting with other people, both online and face to face
- teach students how to recognise the difference between healthy and unhealthy relationships, and encourage students who have been or are being abused to seek help
- prevent abuse by making parents and teachers more aware of their responsibilities to help students avoid abuse.
