March Eagle News 2024
2/27/24
Hello,
Springtime at JHS is full of activity and important dates! Please review the information below regarding testing and special schedules.
March 7 - Parent-Teacher Conferences
Our Spring Parent-Teacher Conferences are on Thursday, March 7th, from 4:00 to 6:00pm in the JHS Commons. Conferences provide a valuable opportunity to discuss your child's progress, achievements, and goals. We believe that open communication between parents and teachers is essential for the success of our students, and we look forward to sharing insights and collaborating with you to support your child's academic journey. Your active participation in these conferences is greatly appreciated, and we are eager to work together to ensure the continued growth and success of your child. We hope to see you there!
March 12 - ACT Testing Day for ALL JUNIORS
All Juniors should report to JHS for ACT testing at 7:45am on Tuesday, March 12. We will follow the testing schedule listed below. This is a non-school day for our Freshmen, Sophomores & Seniors.
April 18 - College and Career Day for ALL STUDENTS
We are thrilled to announce that our first ever College and Career Day is fast approaching on April 18, 2024! This event is a pivotal component of our Academic & Career Planning, providing students with educational opportunities and invaluable insights into various career paths!
For our Freshmen and Sophomores, the day will kick-off with state PreACT Secure testing in the morning. Following the testing session, students will have the opportunity to explore a college and career fair, where they can engage with representatives from a wide range of institutions and industries. Additionally, they will participate in informative sectionals designed to further enhance their understanding of potential career pathways.
Juniors will embark on exciting college tours, allowing them to gain first-hand exposure to different campuses and academic programs. These tours will be instrumental in helping them make informed decisions about their future educational endeavors.
Seniors will view a virtual presentation with information regarding Graduation and post-secondary planning. In addition, they will complete a state required post-secondary planning survey. The survey will also request information for our Senior Spotlight Wall and for JHS social media. This day will also provide students a great opportunity to complete current coursework and to address individual academic or career planning needs. We hope to see all Seniors complete this work on that day.
As you can see, College and Career Day promises to be an enriching and impactful event for all students, equipping them with the knowledge and resources they need to chart their own paths toward success! We encourage all students to approach this day with curiosity, enthusiasm, and an open mind as they explore the possibilities that lie ahead.
Please feel free to have your student reach out to their school counselor with any questions.

ALL GRADE LEVELS:
The Jefferson High School Eagle Theatre Council cordially invites you to enjoy “A Lovely Night” as we present Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella this spring. Originally produced for television, the musical is a traditional take on the beloved fairy tale, with songs like “In My Own Little Corner,” “Do I Love You Because You’re Beautiful?” and “Ten Minutes Ago.” Audience members who are only familiar with a certain cartoon movie of the story will find plenty they recognize, but don’t expect to see any talking mice.
What audiences will see is the theatre magic they have come to expect from an Eagle Theatre Council show - with some new twists. Director Ryan Clarksen is helming his twenty-third full length production, with Kimberly Hart-Shatswell serving once again as Assistant Director. Bryce Muenchow is making his Jefferson debut as Vocal Director, while Kim Clarksen returns to the role of Choreographer after a three year break. Denise Tubman-Reichhoff continues to serve as Pit Band Director. Set Designer Julia Hardin will be joined this year by Eric Rucks, who is co-teaching the Stagecraft class with her. Amy Rundle is Costume Designer again, bringing back her crew of Angie Griffith and Nicole Riemenschneider. The final newcomer to the production staff is Lighting Designer Dustin Strohbush, whom audiences may recognize from his many years as the technical director for the Council for the Performing Arts.
Performances will be Thursday-Saturday, April 25-27 at 7:00 PM and Sunday, April 28 at 2:00 PM. Ticket information will be coming soon. Get ready to have a ball at this magical show!
Mark your calendars and get your tickets now!
We hope to see you there!
BILINGUAL STORY TIME WITH
JHS SPANISH HONOR SOCIETY
On February 5, three members of JHS´s Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica were at the Jefferson Public Library as part of their community service commitment to the organization. Jaelynne Ramírez (not pictured), Kateri Kawleski, and Vidal Serrano read bilingual books, led bilingual songs, and demonstrated finger plays for children from preschool through kindergarten ages. A bi-monthly program designed for both native Spanish and native English speakers, Bilingual Story Time has themes such as Dogs and Cats chosen by Children's Services Director Julia Birch.
The program will continue to take place every first and third Monday evening of the month, from 6:00 - 6:45 p.m. All are welcome, and no advanced registration is needed. Other members from JHS´s Spanish Honor Society are anxious to join in the fun and will be recommending the program to younger siblings and cousins in the area.
