Be Not Afraid!
Good Afternoon Hawk Families,
We had a fun week celebrating Earth Week this week. Thanks to SCOPE and Mrs. Asbury for planning and organizing the dress down days, trivia, and movies during lunch! Congratulations to Mrs. Kovarik's advisee homeroom for winning the trivia contest on Wednesday. SCOPE will be providing them breakfast on Wednesday during advised.
The FFA Plant Sale took place this week. Thanks to all who supported, purchased, and shared our plant sale information. Thanks also to our FFA members and Miss Zeidler for their many hours of dedicated time to make the sale a possibility! Tomorrow, they will be selling flowers outside of Maurice's in Waterloo from 10AM-2PM.
Last night the Oerter Foundation honored the students who make up the top 15% of the Class of 2024. The seniors who were acknowledged were: Hannah Perjak, Krona Newton, Gavin Kesler, Kinsey Biehl, Lucy Range, Elseah Congiardo, Lee Vermeulen, and Brock Murphy. The foundation also awards one of the students a $2,500 scholarship, and this year's recipient was Hannah Perjak! Congratulations to all who were celebrated!
We have a busy week this coming week! Here are the details:
Seussical Musical This weekend, our students will take to the stage for their spring musical performance. There is a flyer attached below. Check out the show tonight or tomorrow at 7PM or Sunday at 2PM.
Women's Club Poker Run This event is this Sunday, April 28th! See flyer below for details.
Hope for Tomorrow: Sock it to Cancer For Hope for Tomorrow’s final fundraiser of the year for those dealing with cancer, we are going to participate in a “Sock it to Cancer” homeroom competition.
Next week Wednesday, May 1st will be a crazy sock day for all students. The idea is to collect change or bills all week and turn in during homeroom. We want to make this fun, so the homeroom that collects the most money by the end of the week will win a donut breakfast, courtesy of Hope for Tomorrow.
Baseball at Grizzlies Stadium JV and Varsity will be playing at Grizzlies Stadium again this year. Our games at GCS are against Alton on Monday, April 29th with a JV first pitch scheduled for 4:00.
It costs us $700 to play at the stadium. This cost is paid for by our ticket sales. Since each ticket is $5 we need to sell 140 tickets to pay to play at the stadium. Any number of tickets purchased beyond that the money goes back to the program. In the past each player was required to sell a certain number of tickets.
However, this year they have gone to digital tickets. Please use the link to purchase tickets for you and your family and friends.

If you would be willing to be the lead person for that sport, please reach out to me as soon as possible. Being the lead, does not mean that you work the stand the whole game and every game. It simply means you have it ready to go, get the volunteers who signed up for that game ready to go, and then close it up at the end.
Each athlete's parent(s) is expected to work at least one shift over the school year. You can find the link is in every Hawk Happenings newsletter. (https://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040D4AAEA72DA5F94-concession). Thank you to all who have already signed up!

From the Desk of Mr. Montgomery
Monday, April 22 saw the Lady Hawks soccer team in action at home against the Explorers of Marquette Catholic, coming out on the short end by the score of 7-0. The soccer team will be at home next on Monday, April 29 when they will recognize their three senior players…can you name them? Also on Monday the varsity baseball team competed against the Pirates of Valmeyer, dropping an 8-1 decision, while the JV squad was at home taking on the Eagles of Columbia, losing by the score of 4-3 in a tough, well played contest.
Tuesday, April 23 was a light day, with track the only squad in action, competing at Columbia High School in the annual Bi-County Meet. There were several strong performances turned in by the Hawks, including:
- Junior Ryan Biffar, 1st in the 400 Meters
- Senior Libby Mesch, 1st in the Shotput
- Freshman Anastasia Melvin, 2nd in the Shotput
- Junior Charlee Lumpkins, 2nd in the Discus, 3rd in the 300 Meter Hurdles
- Freshman Oscar Gedris, 2nd in Discus
- Sophomore Austin Stern, 3rd in the 800 Meters
- Freshman Olivia Biffar, 3rd in the Discus
- Freshman Avery O’Connor, 3rd in the 800 Meters
- And Freshman Kadence Lance, who medaled in three different events
Wednesday, April 24 had the Lady Hawks softball team at home, where they competed against the Lady Warriors from Steeleville. Senior Libby Mesch, coming off her 1st place finish in shotput the day before, powered a homerun to end the shortened game by the score of 15-5.
Thursday, April 25 had girls track and baseball both competing on the road. A big shout out to the Mile-Relay team of Kadence Lance, Bri Baldridge, Avery O’Connor, and Emily Richardson for shattering the school record by a whopping 8 seconds! The baseball squad was at Civic Memorial, where they came away with an exciting victory, scoring two runs in the top of the 7th inning to secure the win. Senior Jack Keeven drove in the tying run, while Senior Cade Kostelac came through with what proved to be the game winning RBI, as the Hawks held on for a 5-4 victory.
Friday, April 26 had the Lady Hawks softball team scheduled to play the Griffins of Father McGivney in a game that was cancelled due to weather. And Saturday, April 27 will see the JV baseball squad competing against the Yellow Jackets from Chester in one game scheduled for an 11:00 start. Coach Diecker has some work to do to get the field ready, so if you have nothing to do Saturday morning, come on out to the field and he’ll put you to work!
