- The 28th Annual Webster Groves Holiday House Tour, sponsored by Hixson PTO, will take place on Sunday, December 8th from 11am to 4pm. This is the biggest fundraising event of the year and it takes many volunteers to make it successful! We have 6 beautiful homes and a holiday boutique that are opening their doors and we need LOTS of volunteers to work the event! The event time is 11am-4pm, and we have it split into 2 shifts. Please sign up using this link. We are also in need of treats for the boutique. If you are able to provide either store bought or homemade treats, please drop them off at Steger between 9-11am the day of the tour. If you have any questions about the event itself, please reach out to Teresa Herrell at tabrussel4975@yahoo.com or 314-607-0957. Thank you for your help and support!
- Save the Date for the Winter Mixer on Friday, January 31, 2020 from 6:30-8:00pm! The theme will be Snow Ball. There will be a DJ, open gym, and snacks available for purchase. No cost to attend with suggested $5+ donation for Webster Rock Hill Ministries.
Parents-If you and/or your spouse were active duty military, employed by the federal government or otherwise worked on federal property on 9/25/2019, we need your help! Additional federal funding is available to school districts when at least 3% of the student population is from homes with parents/guardians employed by the federal government or working on federal property. Please see the attachments below for more information!
Upcoming Due Dates
Two personal reading books are due for November. Fill out completed book forms as you finish your books. These count as summative grades!
Classroom Happenings
ELA: Mrs. Camden
In ELA this week Mrs. Oleskiw-our practicum student from Webster University- reviewed overused words and how to use a thesaurus to spice up writing.
We continued to work with memoir leads and conclusions, and peer edited each others’ work to make our memoirs the best they could be before turning in. Our next unit is Historical Fiction Book Clubs.
Just a reminder, students are required to read two books each month for the rest of the school year. These books count as summative grades. Remind you child that they must fill out a completed book form for their reading to count. Completed book forms are in the classroom next to the pencil sharpener.
I will be placing a Scholastic book order on November 30th for anyone who submits an order online.
If you’d like to donate books to our classroom library, we have wish-lists on Scholastic and Amazon. Thanks!
Science: Mr. Vorel
This week in science we wrapped up our bullseye launcher project. Students designed and built some amazing projects - be sure to ask your child about theirs! In addition to this, students were able to describe how potential/kinetic, balanced/unbalanced forces, and Newton’s three laws applied to their project.
We then spent some time reviewing for a summative test. This test will cover magnetism, electricity/currents, pendulums, and forces (including Newton’s three laws of motion). Students completed a study guide and participated in review games in class. They were also encouraged to study outside of class time.
Social Studies: Mr. McGinnis
This week in Social Studies - Students got knee-deep in the Constitution and created an outline of the 7 Articles of the U.S. Constitution. They will have a test on the Goals, Principles and the structure of our government on Monday, Nov. 25th. Students can replace their Foundations of our Constitution test score with the more in-depth Constitution test - Mon. Nov. 25th.
The key is to review every night up to 10 -15 minutes, practice vocabulary every night and study our classwork which is all on Google classroom.
Bobbi Kennedy, from Civitas, introduced the Model UN program. We will discuss the program as soon as we get some free time. Info on link.
