Issues in America
Education
To help college students afford an education, President Obama ended billions in subsidies used on banks and used the savings made to double investments in Pell Grants. He established a college tax credit for students and their families worth up to $10,000 for over four years of college that the student took. He set a goal for 2020 to be head in the world for college graduates, and cut the growth of college tuition and fees in half for over the next 10 years. This goal will save the average student thousands of dollars a year, and possibly help to bring together community colleges and businesses to train Americans for good jobs that are waiting to be filled.
President Obama is fighting to help state and local governments save the jobs of millions of teachers and to provide states with resources attract great teachers while taking opportunities to improve teachers and their impact on students. He has set a goal to recruit and prepare 100,000 math and science teachers so that we can over-rule countries in fields like science, technology, engineering, and math.
