Message from Mrs. Fassbender
Happy March 1! February was a very busy month and one of the biggest highlights is from our School Family Gathering on February 21. Students listened to the popular children’s book, Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown. In the story Stanley Lambchop gets squashed by a bulletin board while he is sleeping. Uninjured, he decides to make the best of being flat and travels around to different places and sees new things. Many second grade classes used to do a project where students decorated a paper cut out of Flat Stanley and then sent this to different places where people would take photos with him/her and send it back to their class.
At our February Family Gathering students made their own Flat Blue Devil that we sent home and asked our families to take pictures with paper cut out of him/her where they see Lodi Pride happening. They were asked to take these home and take photos here in Lodi or if they are traveling over spring break. We shared some examples of what Lodi Pride might include: being kind to others, sharing, displaying good sportsmanship, being a good audience member, being kind to the Earth, and so forth.
Please feel free to start to send pictures and we will be sharing them on Social Media!
As always, thank you for your continued support of our teachers, support staff, and students. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Amy Fassbender

Message from Ms. Eakins - Music
February in music was a month full of learning about the instruments of the orchestra. 2nd grade listened to the Carnival of the Animals to discover what instruments were used to express each animal. 1st grade learned about the instruments and characters from Peter and the Wolf. And Kindergarten students also listened to Carnival of the Animals. They imagined each animal as we listened and then responded to the music through movement. Starting in March we will be learning music for our upcoming Spring Concert!
Just a reminder the Spring Concert is Friday, May 10!
Message from Ms. Good - Library
- This year’s Caldecott winner (book award for illustrations) was announced on January 22nd. It is Big, written & illustrated by Vashti Harrison, and we read it together in class. Ask your child if they can tell you what happens in the story and if they think it has good illustrations.
- We also learned that there is a Theodor Seuss Geisel award and a Golden Archer award. The Golden Archer award is voted on by Wisconsin students. We read a past Golden Archer award winner.
- We have many students who are continuing the Polar Bear Book Club. To meet this challenge, the students have to read or be read 10 (5 for Kindergarten) award-winning books (any award/honor is fine), record them on their sheet, sign it and have a parent sign it, and turn it in to the library. We will be taking their picture with Snowball, our library polar bear, and hanging it up.
- We learned a little about Martin Luther King Jr. and that February is Black History Month.
- We talked about Read Across America Day, which is on Dr. Seuss’ (Theodor Seuss Geisel’s) birthday, March 2nd, watched a short video about Dr. Seuss, and read a Dr. Seuss book. AND we played Dr. Seuss BINGO!
- Please remind each student to use their plastic library bag when they are transporting books from school to home and back. This will help to keep them clean, dry, and protected.
Feel free to contact me at any time if you have any questions at goodamy@lodischoolswi.org.
Happy reading - Ms. Good
Message from Ms. Nimmow - Art
In February Lodi schools participated in a Youth Art Month show in Madison. One student from the Primary, Elementary and OSC got to put something in the show. All three pieces were chosen to move forward to the state show this month! The show will be on display at the East Towne Mall from Saturday, March 2 through Friday, March 22.
We are finishing up some fun clay projects which will be coming home in the near future, so keep an eye out for them!
Message from Mr. Sagami - PE
Something new and exciting will be happening in the gymnasium this March. We will begin our jump rope unit and with that, we will be participating in Jump Rope for Heart this year. Students will learn the benefits of jump roping and be able to donate to a great cause that will help those in need. We will be participating in a lot of fun jump rope activities and learn new skills and tricks to show friends and families. The plan is to start this Monday, March 4th and have the fun jump rope assembly on March 21st. Students will receive take home papers on how to log in and sign up, in order to donate and even receive thank you gifts! If there are any questions or concerns please reach out to me via email and I will help in any way I can.
Message from Mrs. Winter - School Nurse
As the weather warms up and the grass begins to turn green we will be seeing ticks return. Here are some tips for how to protect your family from ticks and how to remove them.
Tick prevention tips:
Wear clothing that protects you such as closed toed shoes, a long sleeve shirt and pants. Having light colored clothing will allow you to see the ticks easier. Pull long hair back or wear a hat.
If hiking, stay on the trails where the grass is shorter.
Use insect repellent that contains deet. Follow the directions carefully for all deet containing products around children. Some deet products are meant to be used on clothing, not the skin. If deet was applied to skin be sure to clean with soap and water once they are back indoors.
Check for ticks after being outdoors. Be sure your kids check their armpits, groin area and they may need some help checking behind their ears.
Keep in mind that ticks like to hide in clothing, on pets and camping gear.
Click here: Tick bite, what to do?
Sun safety: Click here for tips to protect your skin from the sun.
It is wise to use multiple different methods to protect your skin from the sun.
Shade: Playing in the shade, under a tree or umbrella can help protect your families' skin. Applying sunscreen while remaining in the shade is an even more effective plan.
Clothing: wear long sleeve/pants, light colored clothing to protect your skin from sunburn. This is a good idea if it is difficult to apply sunscreen as frequently as it needs to be applied. There are options for UV protective clothing.
Hat: A wide brim hat provides the best protection to help keep the sun off your child’s face and neck.
Sunglasses: Sunglasses that block UVA and UVB rays can help protect your eyes from damage that can cause eye problems as you age.
Sunscreen: It is recommended to use a broad spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher that is applied at least every 2 hours for kids over 6 months of age. Be sure your sunscreen is not expired. It is most beneficial to use sunscreen in combination with additional sun protective measures.

Family Resources
Family Opportunity - Hosting Exchange Student
Lodi Rotary has an opportunity for 3 families in the Lodi School district to host our exchange student in the upcoming 2024-25 school year. Each family would host the student for 3-4 months. Students come with their own insurance and spending money. We ask that they be treated as a member of the family while they are in your home. They do not require their own bedroom but must have their own bed. If you are interested and prefer a boy or girl please let us know ASAP so we can make that happen. If you are interested or would like more information, please contact Cindy Ballweg 608-212-9145, Steve Hoerig 608- 212-5117 or Doug Richmond 608-370-1135.
Thank You
