The Second Amendment
Robert Smith & Abby Pace
Opening statement
The Second Amendment was made to provide us with freedom to bear arms. We were given this freedom in 1791.
Define
What does it say?
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
Detail
Cause
The generation to create this amendment, didn't trust standing armies. Many Americans believed that people still had their "English ways", and "Central Governments are prone to use armies to oppress people." This right gives the people to stand up against an unnecessary battle between the citizens and the government.
Characteristics
The Second Amendment states that in order to maintain a free state, the people must retain the right to keep and bear arms. The presence of armed citizens is what keeps the government "honest". No government would be foolish enough to impose a dictatorship on people who have the ability to resist.
