This Week We...
- Practiced building our reading stamina and sorting our Dot Books and Interest Books in Reading Workshop.
- Learned to focus on revising and editing their work using checklists during Writing Workshop. The Maples also learned how to be teachers with their writing and began to draft their nonfiction books.
- In Math Workshop we explored how to prove if an equation is true or false. We also used tiles to measure the area of our feet to help us count larger numbers.
- For our Integrated Unit we expanded on our trip to the NY Transit Museum (see below) and dove deep in to new centers involving various aspects of transportation and systems.
Next Week We Will...
- Look at how authors use dialog in Reading Workshop.
- Work on keeping our readers in mind when writing our nonfiction books in Writing Workshop.
- Explore how different systems work for our Integrated Unit.
- Develop new strategies for counting greater quantities in Math Workshop.
Maples at the Transit Museum
On Tuesday the Maples kicked off their new Integrated Unit "How Does a System Meet Its Needs?" with a visit to the New York Transit Museum in downtown Brooklyn. At the museum students were able to design their own bus or train, explore buses and train cars and learn about how the transit system changed over time as the city grew.
Ask Me About...
- How are trains different now than they were in the past?
- How do trains and buses help the city?
- What did you use to plan your nonfiction book?
- What kinds of systems do you want to learn about?
