As we move into Parent Conference Week, I am reminded about the importance of the home/school connection. It has always been critical for parents and teachers to work together, but during this pandemic we have experienced collaboration in new and deeper ways. Parent conferences next week are vitally important as teachers share recent assessment information and individual learning goals for students mid way through the semester. Teachers have shared that in person learning has allowed them to thoughtfully analyze student progress in order to best address learning goals. Thank you for partnering with your child’s teacher.
Parent Hybrid Survey
In last week’s weekly update, we included a hybrid program survey link to receive input in regards to the learning experience so far. Thank you to the over 600 individual responses received this week. We wanted to provide additional time for those that have not responded. The survey is linked here and we welcome you to complete the survey by Tuesday, October 13. This feedback, in addition to regular communications with our staff, students, and families, helps us with further planning and refining the hybrid model.
COVID-19 Testing for School-aged Children Available in San Diego County
We wanted to share information with our families about COVID-19 testing available for students from Kindergarten - Grade 12. The County of San Diego has compiled this webpage with the most up to date information on testing guidance and free testing sites. For a testing location map, please visit this webpage. Locations are available across the county, but the closest are in Solana Beach, San Marcos, and Oceanside.
Halloween Guidance Provided by the County of San Diego
To minimize the spread of COVID-19 and ensure children have a fun, safe Halloween, the County of San Diego offers guidance for the most common activities to protect you and your loved ones at this link.
Travel during Fall Break - Guidance from CDC
As some families plan for potential travel out of state or internationally over the fall break, we wanted to share travel guidance from the Center for Disease Control (CDC). Student and staff safety is paramount and we want to ensure the safest possible return to school on November 2nd. Here is a link to the CDC guidelines and recommendations.
EUSD COVID-19 Dashboard
We are once again sharing the EUSD COVID-19 Dashboard link in our weekly communication. The purpose of this data is to provide our families and staff with a transparent summary of on-site active COVID-19 cases.
Polling Locations Update
Four EUSD schools, El Camino Creek, Ocean Knoll, Park Dale Lane, and Paul Ecke Central, will be utilized by the Registrar of Voters as polling places for the upcoming election. Governor Newsom created executive orders to help Californians exercise their right to vote in a safe, secure, and accessible manner during the upcoming election. The governor has allowed for the Registrar of Voters to use school sites/facilities to accommodate the need for polling places. We have worked with the Registrar of Voters to ensure the polling locations on our campuses are separated and self-contained so there is no interaction with students or staff on campus. Principals from these sites will share specific information with their school communities.
REMINDER: Daily Symptom Checks for Students At Home
As a reminder, parents/guardians will screen their child(ren) for COVID-19 before taking them to school each day. We thank you for your attention to this very important process.
Specifically, parents/guardians screen their child(ren) for any of the following symptoms associated with COVID-19: cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, chills, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea. If the child(ren) has any of these symptoms, parent/guardian will not send the child(ren) to school and will notify the school of the absence and any symptoms experienced.
Additionally, parent/guardian will take the temperature of the child(ren) using an operable
thermometer. If the child(ren) has a temperature of 100.0 °F or above, the parent/guardian will not send the child(ren) to school and notify the school of the absence. A child will not be sent to school if medication for the purpose of reducing a fever has been administered within the last 24 hours.
Additionally, in the event the child(ren) has been exposed to anyone who has tested positive for
COVID-19 in the previous two weeks, parent/guardian will not send the child(ren) to school and will notify the school that the student has been kept home for this reason. The child(ren) will not be able to return to school until permitted by the School in compliance with direction from the San Diego Health & Human Services Agency and the San Diego Public Health Order.
