Monday Message
From the desk of Dr. Harrell
December 9, 2019
In reading yesterday’s Uvalde Leader-News the ‘Remember When’ section caught my attention. The 10 years ago section heading caught my eye “Player involvement is the key to success.” On Sunday, December 6, 2009, Coach Terrie Rambie was named Class 4A Coach of the Year for 2009 by the Texas Tennis Coaches Association. In the article coach Rambie is quoted as saying she, “Loves to win, but it’s more important to see kids involved, learning the fundamentals of tennis and the fundamentals of life right here.” Coach went on to say “Over the years, a lot of coaches keep records, I couldn’t tell you what my win-loss record is. In a successful season, I see all these courts full. To me, that’s a winning season.” Later in the article, she talks about never cutting or removing a kid from the program, she finds a place for each one giving them the opportunity to play, compete and the experience to go to tournaments and represent their school and community.
If you have not yet met Coach Rambie she is a very charismatic coach and person. She truly loves every student who crosses her path but is not shy about telling them to shape up or to get in line but never go away. She was very deserving of this award in December 2009. What is more proof of her continued vision of including every student, love for every kid and the love she has to teach and grow young men and women in this community is the fact she earned the award again this weekend, ten years later. Coach Terri Rambie is the 2019 Region 4, 5A Coach of the Year!
Congratulations Coach!

The students enjoyed learning about Fort Inge and the Volcanic Plug! Mr. Carnes shared great information on the working Cabbage Harvest allowing students to handle cabbage in the field. It was a great trip allowing our students to learn more about our community.
Scholars of the Month
Uvalde C.I.S.D. has partnered with IBC Bank and KVOU Radio to promote and encourage scholastic excellence among students. Students enter an essay-writing contest with the topic “Why I Should be a Scholar of the Month.” Teachers choose one composition to represent their classroom. Compositions are turned into a campus leadership team, which selected one winner to represent Morales Junior High School 8th and 7th-graders. The Scholar of the Month recognition took place on Wednesday, December 4th.

Author, Billy Kring Visits UHS
UHS students and staff had the pleasure of meeting Billy Kring, writer and actor on Thursday, December 5th. Mr. Kring interacted with both staff and students with great stories brought to life from his 14 different books of all genres. UHS ELAR and Social Studies departments introduced Mr. Kring before his visit with an author study and allowed students to experience life through the lens of a "REAL AUTHOR"!
