English Village Family Edition
A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPALS:
Greetings, EV Families! We hope that you are all healthy and had a nice weekend. This past weekend has us thinking about luck among other things. We truly feel lucky to have the privilege to work with such amazing students and their families! You all bring so much to the table for your children/our students. Your diligence in supporting teaching and learning at home is duly noted and is paying off. Your children/our students are making great gains!
THIS is not due to luck! It is due to the hard work and consistency from you all at home and our staff here at school, and because of our great partnership! The data shows that our students are growing both academically and socially/emotionally. Our combined efforts to give all students what they need is working! For that, we greatly thank and appreciate you all!
So...let's keep it going and continue to find ways to develop and foster our partnership. As always, we are here for you and your families. We are always listening and willing to try new ideas, strategies, etc. to ensure that your children/our students are successful and prepared for the next grade level.
Thank you again, take care, and have a great week!
Sincerely,
Jason Lewis
Rosa Bellone

Cultural Week Celebrations
Multicultural Pennants
Thank you to the families that sent in their decorated pennants. We made a multicultural wall that celebrated all our families cultures. Our families are what make EV the place to be!
English Village welcomes presenters for Cultural Week
English Village students participated in many engaging cultural activities this week. We had the following presenters and workshops for students.
The Grupo Cultural Latinos en Rochester visited our Kindergarten and 1st Grade classrooms. They shared information about Carnival. Students had the opportunity to play traditional music instruments and make their own shaker. Then they learned dance moves and danced to Samba music.
2nd Graders participated in an Adinkra workshop with Mrs. A. She taught the students how to create a language without words, by creating shapes and designs. They learned about Sankofa which means to learn from the past to make the future better. They then created the symbol of the mythical bird - who is flying forward with its head turned backward .
We ended the week with a presentation from the Black Storytelling League of Rochester. Who shared stories with the students and shared African-American history. Ask your students to retell the story to you, then pass it on - that is the way stories are shared within this culture.

Family Fun Night at Leap N' Laugh
Families enjoyed coming together at our external family fun night at Leap N' Laugh this week. It was so great to see students playing together and families interacting. Thank you to our Parent Coordinator Katy Cooper for putting on this event.
March is Music in our Schools Month
Each week we will be featuring activities that the fun students are doing in Music Class.
In this picture students got to play the tambourine, a microphone, and a triangle. They listened then reacted to directions in the music. We had lots of fun singing, dancing, and playing!

An activity to build integrity:
Do “two goldens” A key message is to help children realize that people with integrity treat everyone equally and in the way they would like to be treated. A Palm Springs mom told me that she wanted her girls to learn the Golden Rule so she encouraged her kids to do what she called “two goldens” every day. (two things you’d like someone else to do to you because that’s the way you’d like to be treated) They brainstormed simple ideas (like opening the door, smiling, asking someone to play) Then each night they shared what they did. The mom told me, “the more they practice, the more they begin to see themselves as people of character. Try this idea with your children.
