Our Month Ahead
In March, we will begin Unit 6 - Stories Teach Many Lessons. Students will be listening to and reading stories that teach lessons. They will be thinking about what can be learned from a mistake. In this unit, students will make connections, listen and retell key details, describe characters and write a sequence of events. Students will also identify the central message in stories. We will compare and contrast characters in 2 texts.
In reading, we will focus on vowel flexibility (schwa sounds), one- and two- syllable words with long vowels spelled vowel-consonant-e, and long e vowel teams (ee and ea) and long a vowel teams (ai and ay).
In writing, we will write narratives and focus on including descriptive details. We will learn to use both simple and compound sentences as we write.
MATH
We will finish the second half of Module 4 in Eureka Math during the beginning of the month. By the end of March, we will start Module 5. Throughout the year, students have explored part–whole relationships in many ways, such as their work with number bonds, tape diagrams, and the relationship between addition and subtraction. In Module 5, students consider part–whole relationships through a geometric lens.
SOCIAL STUDIES
In social studies, we will talk about recycling and how it helps with our environment.
SCIENCE
In Science, we will be making observations about animal parents and their offspring. We will also observe images to identify similarities between plants and their seedlings, and connect their understanding of similarities between animal parents and their offspring.
At Home Learning
Reading: While we are hoping for an early spring, it could be a great time to get outside! While March is national reading month, consider heading to your favorite park and bringing along a book to read.
Math: While your out and about, consider applying some of our recent math skills of comparing the size of objects and ordering them. Look for different size flowers or trees and make statements to match.
