SPOTLIGHT: Celebrating our Kindness
Beall staff is excited to be celebrating our Kindness the week of February 12. Recognizing the importance of demonstrating kindness throughout our daily experiences means making it a conscious habit to be kind to others, even when nobody is watching. Kindness comes in many forms from our words to our actions to our beliefs When we develop an attitude of kindness we feel happier and more positive. Kindness increases positive feelings for all involved. It also makes us grateful for the people and things that matter. We want all students to be able to participate in activities that help us recognize and celebrate the importance of being kind. Each grade level will plan a celebration that allow students to recognize the kindness around them. This may include stories, artwork, and social opportunities. Teachers will share their plans with students. Additionally, there will be some visual reminders throughout the building.

Change of School Assignment (COSA)
Student Transfer Application Season Begins February 1, 2024. Montgomery County parents/guardians who wish to request a Change of School Assignment (COSA) for their children may begin the process during the upcoming transfer season, which starts in February. All COSA requests must be submitted no later than April 2, 2024. The transfer process begins in the home school, where parents/guardians may request the Change of School Assignment Information Booklet that contains the COSA form, describes the process and provides useful information. Beginning the first week of February, the COSA booklet will be available in schools and online. Click here for more information.
New for the 2024-2025 COSA transfer process:
- COSA request applications now can be submitted online instead of the traditional paper form. When an application is submitted online, a βreceiptβ email notification will be sent to the parent/guardian submitting the request shortly after the administrative team of the studentβs assigned home school receives the application. If the request is successfully completed online, a paper form submission is not necessary. The link to the online COSA request form can be found on the Student Transfers website.
Attention 5th Grade familiesβ If you attend Beall on a COSA, you will automatically be assigned to your home school for 6th grade. An approved transfer is required in order to remain in the Richard Montgomery Cluster. Please feel free to contact the main office if you have questions.
Important Dismissal Reminders
Please take a couple of minutes to discuss dismissal procedures with your child. It is important for students to know what they should do if there is a change to the regular routines. Students who are regularly dismissed as walkers should be reminded to remain with Beall staff until they are picked up. We encourage parents to communicate with your childβs teacher, prior to the start of the school day, if your child will be attending an afterschool activity or if there are other changes to their regular routines.
We also ask for your assistance in modeling pedestrian safety. While we understand the convenience of having students cross streets, or parking lots, to find their family car, it is incredibly important for all students to cross streets with the guidance of the crossing guards or crosswalks. Please do not encourage your child to run across the street at any other location!
Finally, we would like to remind all families to avoid bringing dogs onto school grounds during dismissal (or arrival) times. We know that most family pets are friendly, cute, and cuddly, however many students are afraid of the barking. If you must bring your pet with you during dismissal, please identify a meeting location off school grounds that your child can walk to independently. (This is not an option for our youngest students.)
Kids for Kids Fund
We are very excited to have the opportunity to continue participating in a program called the Kids for Kids Fund. Students who choose to participate will research various organizations doing positive things for children, identify how additional funding would support their efforts, create a persuasive presentation to their peers, and then collaboratively decide which organization should be the recipients of a $1000 donation. This program is funded through a community partnership program. This optional program is only available for 4th grade students and will take place during recess on Thursdays in February and March. All fourth graders will be given applications before the end of January. For more information, contact Ms. Cohen or visit https://www.thegivingsquare.org/.
