April 15th - 18th
Highlights from our week:
Shared Reading - This week our class our class read several different nonfiction books about seeds and plants. Students explored how plants grow and different types of seeds. Our class planted pumpkin seeds and pea seeds in the classroom, which we will observe in order to see the growing process.
Writing - 1st Grade spent this week working on book recommendations. Students in our class picked a book that they liked from our classroom library or on the iPad book service EPIC. The recommendations included an introduction and three reasons why they wanted another person to read their book. These projects will go in the hallway once they are completed.
Social Studies - This week we continued to practice map skills. Students read maps on the SMARTBoard and participated in map activities such as coloring the land and water features, identifying objects on the map according to the key, and choosing a map to use to solve a problem.
Math - Our focus this week centered on adding and subtracting numbers between 0 and 20. This included practice determining if a chosen equation was True/False and various types of word problems. Students took the Unit 6 test on this content. The remainder of the week was spent returning to measurement and height. Students reviewed the heights of penguins they had previously learned about, and found new information about the Emperor and Little Blue Penguins. Measurement will continue next week.
