Updates
Wow...it's hard to believe that it has only been one week since we closed our doors.
We first and foremost want to extend our thanks to you for all you are doing to help us teach your children under less than desirable circumstances. We are heartbroken that our children aren't with us daily, that we have had to postpone Confirmation, that we weren't able to take scheduled field trips, that we aren't able to share a laugh with the students, hug them, instruct them or even reprimand them for maybe throwing a paper wad across the room.
Your faculty and staff are weathering this storm like no other. We have put together live streams, colorful scavenger hunts, engaging online chats, and virtual field trips just to name a few activities.
Please know that if your children are experiencing any anxiety or stress during this situation that we are here to help you. Allow your children to go outside and play and if they need a break from the work, give them those breaks. We understand that we are not with your children and we want to give them the time to understand the work while it is not overly taxing on them. If you find that the workload is too heavy, please let us know.
We do not have a definitive return to school date yet. We will keep you posted.
We all know there is no playbook on how to handle this situation and we are all learning together. Again, we cannot stress enough to please communicate with us if you need any assistance. We only want to act in the best interest of our students and we appreciate your patience as we take every precaution to keep the St. Damian Community and the greater community safe.
We continue to keep you in our prayers.
Tips to Keep Yourself and Family Healthy
- Take care of your body – Try to eat healthy well-balanced meals, exercise regularly, and get plenty of sleep.
- Connect with others – Let’s be physically distant without being socially distant. Maintain healthy relationships and build a strong support system.
- Take breaks – Make time to unwind and remind yourself that stress is manageable. Try taking in deep breaths. Try to do activities you usually enjoy.
- Avoid too much exposure to the news – Take breaks from watching, reading, or listening to news stories. It can be upsetting to constantly be hearing about the crisis. Try to do enjoyable activities and return to normal routines as much as possible and check for updates between breaks.
- Seek help when needed – If distress impacts activities of your daily life for several days or weeks, talk to a spiritual leader, counselor or contact us.
