Studies in Religion
Our Blue Heron Class has been immersed in the world religions block from the 6th grade curriculum which includes the study of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Ms. Whitridge has so enjoyed teaching this block and the class has gotten a real dose of place-based learning getting out into our community to visit a mosque, temple, and churches, directly speaking with leaders in these groups and getting to ask questions and learn more from them. Thank you, Ms. Whitridge!
Dear Siskiyou School Parents,
The Auction was such a grand success! What a beautiful, festive, fun and golden glittery evening! Thank you to Sarah for her excellent leadership and organization! There are no words to express enough gratitude to everyone for helping to make it such a great fundraising event. A huge thank you for the outpouring of such immense generosity and support for the school!!!
Today is the Spring Equinox! Our campus is fully in bloom and trees and bushes are budding in this beautiful warm weather. The children are all very engaged in their lessons and happy to be playing outside during recess. It’s our last week before spring break. Please join us this week for the last few days of 8th grade presentations; they have all been fantastic!
The re-enrollment forms have gone out and we hope to see all children returning for the next school year. Please be in touch with me as soon as you can if your family is foreseeing a change of schooling for your child/ren; this is important information for our enrollment tracking. We also want to schedule exit interviews with parents who are leaving in order to hear their feedback.
We hope everyone will have a wonderful and playful break and we look forward to welcoming quite a nice number of children for spring break camp next week.
School will resume on Monday, April 8th and we will be in the last stretch of the school year. During April, May and early June we will have many exciting events, class plays, class events and field trips, and much more.
Blessings on our school! With warmth, Aurilia

All enrollment forms are DUE on Friday, April 19th, including the online application for Tuition Assistance. If we do not have your forms at that time we will assume you do not intend to re-enroll for next year and the spot in your child's class is available. Thank you!

Come see our campus with an eye to our middle school programs and curriculum. Hosted by Mr. Beech, our 8th grade teacher, this Open House is intended for parents and students looking for a different way of approaching the middle school years and instilling a lifelong love of learning!
Middle School Math - Ms. James
With the beautiful Spring days outside, sometimes it's hard to keep the students in learning about their decimals (5th), percentages (6th), linear equations (7th) and factoring polynomials (8th) but Spring also brings Pi Day!! Pi, a Greek letter, is what mathematicians call the relationship of a circle's circumference divided by its diameter. Every circle in the universe shares this same relationship: when you divide a circle's circumference by its diameter, it is always the same, irrational number: 3.141592.......(and it keeps going with a never-repeating pattern).
So, we "mathy" types like to celebrate Pi Day on March 14th (3.14)!! Mr. Monda and I decided to prolong the anticipation and we held out until this week to celebrate this unique mathematical relationship. Grades 5-8 will learn about this unique number and its applications in our lives, along with a competition to see who can memorize the most digits of Pi on Wednesday and Thursday. Of course, we will also will celebrate with the other kind of PIE. It's a sweet way to go into our Spring Break! We hope you all have a great break!

Oregon Battle of the Books - Middle School team at Regionals!
From OBOB Organizer and Coach, Amy Bull:
I accompanied the four Middle School OBOB kids to Rogue River yesterday for their regional battle. There were 9 teams from the valley competing. Rye, Django, Azie and Max all showed up and were super awesome competitors (Nova had to skip to work on his project!). There was an exciting battle against Ashland Middle School where we were head to head and just managed to score five more points winning that round. There were also two challenges made by our team, I was so proud of them for speaking up. Sadly we didn’t make it past the quarter finals, but I think everyone had fun.
Thanks again for all of your support for Oregon Battle of the Books at the Siskiyou School!
Wishing you all the very best spring break! May you enjoy a deep breath and fun with your children.
We will be back to support you with your parenting path in April. New time options for those of you who have said that mornings are hard! E-mail us if you would like to be on our mailing list.
Blessings on your family time,
Nina
Greetings from Chess Club!
This week we are coming up on our final meeting of Session 1.
It's been a lot of fun, and inspiring me to take a more active role in my own chess upgrading and learning. And, great to see the kids enjoying it so much and making real strides in their own games.
There will be a shorter Session 2 beginning after spring break. The tentative dates are April 12th, 19th, and 26th, followed by a break for May Day. We will pick back up on May 10th and 17th with a break for the last round of conferences. There's a tentative May 31st date, but that's not confirmed yet. I will officially confirm in the first TN following spring break.
The last two weeks, aside from our weekly end game puzzles, and review of tactics, we have been looking at chess notation, which is a way to record the moves made in a game. Chess notation is an essential component of continued learning as you need it to be able to follow sequences of moves, as well as to learn specific openings. It can also be a requirement of participating in chess tournaments. Speaking of, we will be holding a chess tournament over the course of Session 2 for those interested. Entry requirements will be notating/recording one game of chess prior to the tournament (students won't have to notate during tournament games). A couple of students have already taken that step, which is more challenging that you might think the first few tries. But, the tournament is only for those interested and regular chess club will be happening in conjunction with those games.
Let me know if your child is interested in continuing on for Session 2. Also, many of you still haven't paid for Session 1 yet... please get a hold of me ; ) dustin.monda@siskiyouschool.org
