BEING THE VOICE CAN MEAN DIFFERENT THINGS
Trumie, (a 1st grader at Windsor School) and his dad (Josh) were guest communicators in Destiny Love Lawyer’s 6th grade class! Trumie is a non-speaking student who uses lots of different ways to communicate. During their visit, Trumie and Josh shared information on neurodiversity, communication, and how we can all learn from each other.
Picture Based Communication Boards
Did you know that all Windsor Southeast Supervisory Union schools have installed picture-based communication boards at each of their playgrounds as an inclusive communication tool for non-speaking students? Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems are used by children and adults who need to communicate in picture form due to speech disorders, Autism, or other communication limitations. This outside tool on the playground allows all individuals the ability to communicate their wants and needs to others without interrupting their play. WSESU is excited to be a part of a school community that supports the inclusion of all individuals at work and at play. You can see our boards at the Windsor School, the Albert Bridge School in West Windsor, the Weathersfield School and the Hartland Elementary School.
Mount Ascutney Board Members Visit Middle School
Mount Ascutney Board members spent some time in middle school this month. While visiting, they discussed ways that students can share learning experiences with our boards and invited students to apply to be student members on our boards.
